2 WELCOME Dear Colleagues, You are cordially invited to participate in the 3 rd International Conference on CRYSTALLOGENESIS AND MINERALOGY to be held in Novosibirsk, September 27 October 1, 2013 at the resort complex Sosnovka located near Academy Town, one of the biggest Russian scientific centers where Novosibirsk State University and 35 research Institutes are located. The Conference will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of recent research and development activities in fundamental and applied crystallogenesis and mineralogy. The scientific program will include both oral and poster sessions, as well as plenary and invited talks to provide a complete picture of the latest developments in the field. A special Young scientists day, a satellite symposium Deep carbon cycle: mineralogy and crystal chemistry of carbon-bearing compounds, and a post-conference Workshop Frontiers in crystallography are also planned. The Conference is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Arkady E. Glikin ( ) and to the 105 th anniversary of Acad. Vladimir S. Sobolev ( ). 4 CONFERENCE SCOPE The Conference is devoted to the fundamental and applied problems of crystallogenesis and mineralogy. The following topics will be discussed: Formation of the ideal and real structure of crystals; aperiodic structures Methods of crystal growth, synthesis of crystalline materials and experimental mineralogy Bio- and organogenic minerals and materials Crystallogenesis of minerals Nano-mineralization and crystal growth at nanoscale High-pressure research in relation to mineralogy and crystal genesis Extraterrestrial mineralogy and crystallogenesis in space A special Young Scientists Day will include comprehensive lectures on the frontiers of research given by distinguished lecturers, as well as oral and poster presentations by young scientists. The program of the Conference will also include a satellite meeting Deep carbon cycle: mineralogy and crystal chemistry of carbon-bearing compounds with following topics to be discussed: Carbon in magmatic and metamorphic processes Kimberlites, diamonds and their inclusions Experimental modeling of deep carbon cycle and carbon in the Earths and planetary interiors Social program will include various excursions, Welcome party, Conference dinner, etc. 3

Crystal growth in Nature, laboratory and industry: Crystals and crystallization (a general introduction) Crystal growth of non-linear optical materials Crystal growth of synthetic diamonds Crystal growth and experimental mineralogy Crystal growth of magnetic materials 2. High-pressure diffraction and Raman microscopy in crystal genesis and mineralogy: Instrumentation for generating HP, HP-HT and HP-LT conditions Instrumentation for data collection using in situ X-ray diffraction at high pressures Processing of high-pressure diffraction data In situ Raman microscopy and spectroscopy at high pressures: experimental techniques, data analysis and applications 3. Frontiers of crystallography: aperiodic, twinned and disordered structures POST-CONFERENCE TRIP During October 2 5 the post-conference trip to the Irkutsk Scientific Center is planned. The trip includes demonstration of experimental base for crystal growth in Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry and visit to the famous Baikal lake where excursion to the Baikal museum and a boat excursion (in case of good weather) will be organized. 4

6 REGISTRATION Registration should be made through the Conference website by filling the Registration online form (will be available after January 15, 2013). Registration fee: Participants $225 Young scientists (below 35) $175 Accompanying persons $175 Fee includes: attendance to the scientific sessions, Conference materials, lunches and coffee breaks, Welcome party, invitation letter for Russian visa. ABSTRACT SUBMISSION Electronic version of abstract should be submitted through the Conference website by filling the Abstract Submission online form (will be available after January 31, 2013).
