Data sources Monitoring: NAtChem, AQS, CAPMoN, CASTNet, IMPROVE, NAPS, SEARCH and STN networks, CAPMoN, NADP, NBPMN, NSPSN, and REPQ networks, WMO World Ozone and Ultraviolet Data Centre (WOUDC), NASA's AErosol RObotic NETwork (AeroNet) and European AOD measurements; MOZAIC Data Centre, EMEP European Environment Agency/European Topic Center on Air and Climate Change/AirBase provided European air- and precipitationchemistry data. Data from meteorological station monitoring networks were provided by NOAA and Environment Canada (for the US and Canadian meteorological network data) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) data support section. Calypso data from RSIG Emissions: Finish Meteorological Institute for providing EU biomass burning emission TNO for MACC and US EPA. 9

Integration of web services standard web services are WMS (Web Map Service), WCS (Web Coverage Service) and WFS (Web Feature Service). Standards defined by the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) - ENSEMBLE contents that are suitable for delivery via web services are: model output data (grids and 1/2/3D receptors) measurements (grids and 1/2/3D receptors) Geo-referenced ENSEMBLE analysis products (i.e. grid plots) 10

OGC resources (currently WMS) can be added to each case

WMS layer returned by MODIS (fires are red spots)

Interoperability Testing phases of interoperability with -With DLR ( indirect with Giovanni) - With HTAP system - Complince with Air quality Community Catalog Testing ENSEMBLE on HTAP1 data and devising data converters from netcd_cf to ENSEMBLE format and vice versa 14

DataFed EBAS GEIA HTAP AEROCOM DLR ACP Giovanni ABC DAC ENSEMBLE 15

Each catalogue is then saved in the form of a mapfile in a service-specific directory: ensemble@ensemble:/media/tera-storage/www/ensemble/db/ogc/server$ ls wcs wfs wms - The catalogue generated is in the form of a mapfile. The mapfile is then read by ENSEMBLE in OGC server mode for answering external requests. - An example of the top part of one of these mapfiles, specifically for the WMS service, is given below: ensemble@ensemble:/media/tera-storage/www/ensemble/db/ogc/server$ cat wms/wms-sgalmarini map MAP NAME "wms-sgalmarini-0201" STATUS ON EXTENT UNITS DD PROJECTION "init=epsg:4326" END IMAGECOLOR TRANSPARENT ON WEB METADATA "ows_title" "wms-sgalmarini-0201" "ows_onlineresource" " "ows_enable_request" "*" "ows_srs" "EPSG:4326" "ows_abstract" "" END END LAYER 16
