4 Geological Report NE Eldorodo Township Property Timmins Area introduction The property consists of one 16 hectare claim unit (P ) in northeast Eldorado Township (Figure 1). The property is reached from the Redstone River road which extends south from South Porcupine and traverses the east part of Eldorado Township. The claim is a mile east of the rood, through relatively typical Timmins area bush. To the writers knowledge there has been no exploration work on the property, other than falling within the confines of large regional airborne surveys. Present Survey In June 1993, the writer briefly visited the property and undertook a cursory examination of the outcrops and collected three samples off a large outcrop area in the SW portion of the claim. Thin sections were cut of the samples and subsequently examined as a preliminary stage to determining the mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry and hopefully the petrogenesis of the intrusion. Geology/Petrology The claim lies within a trondhjemite stock, intruded by a NE trending quartz diabase (Nipissing-type) dike (Pyke, 1975). Of interest on the claim are two outcrop areas of what are currently interpreted as a diatreme-like intrusion adjacent to the diabase (Figure 2) The diatreme is fine grained, dark green weathering and fresh and contains numerous (approximately percent) sub-rounded inclusions of trondhjemite

5 ond diobose; trondhjemitic inclusions ore lorger in size (up to 50 cm), the diobose 2-6cm. Three thin sections of the matrix to the diatreme from the southwest outcrop area were examined. In thin section the rock is seen to consist of approximately ^ olivine phenocrysts which have a bimodal size distribution; l-2mm and 6-10mm, the former being dominant (Photo 1). The larger phenocrysts are sub-rounded and show only minor alteration to chlorite/magnetite at the grain boundaries. The smaller phenocrysts form sub-euhedral grains, largely or wholly altered to chlorite/serpentine with lesser carbonate and characteristically numerous high relief crystals of what appears to be sphene (Photo 2 k 3). The sphene is generally concentrated more toward the center of the altered olivine grains, or rarely forms concentric bands (zones) within the grains (Photo 4fc 5). The matrix to the olivine crystals appears to be largely acicular pyroxene (?) and feldspar (plagioclase?) - Photo 6, 7 k 8. One thin section contained 5-1 OX phenocrysts of 1 mm size untwinned feldspar (alkali feldspar?), partially altered to carbonate and sericite. Opaque minerals, generally mm in size are ubiquitous throughout the matrix and constitute approximately 10 Jl by volume of the rock. Other constituents include leucoxene, minor epidote and trace apatite. The rock appears to be some type of lamprophyre, yet detailed identification must await more accurate determination of the mineral phases. To this end, X-ray powder diffraction and/or microprobe techniques will be employed. In addition, a multi-element anelysis,inc1uding rare earth elements, will more definitively identify the rock species As well, a more detailed field examination and sampling program is planned to ascertain if additional intrusive phases are present.
