1 Spring Edition May 2018 ON THE TRAIL A Chapter of the AMCA Inside the box: Editor s Note Presidents Letter Editor s Note: SANTA FE TRAIL. The Santa Fe Trail was an important commerce route between 1821 and 1880 that extended from Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The trail extended south from Santa Fe for an additional thousand miles through El Paso to the Mexican towns of Chihuahua and Durango, following the natural roads wagon masters found along the entire distance s Ann Margaret riding a chopper. What was popular then is still popular now. Choppers have seen their changes thru the years; we ve made them fatter, faster, lower, and longer. Attached a bunch of lights on them put tires on them so fat it was hard to turn. Hydraulics, servo s, electric start we also hid the drive on some. But, one thing for sure. The classic 60 s original look will be the grandfather of them all.
2 Presidents Letter: What a spring, It was too cold to do anything. a few of our members went to the Oz show only to find a skating rink for a parking lot and outdoor show.the show went on turns out to be good despite the weather. as soon as it warmed up I took off on a ride. First I went to Cahokia Mound by Collinsville Illinois. these Mounds were made about 1200 to 1500 years ago by hauling baskets of dirt. This took over 100 years to build, they also have an information center to better show life at that time, I found it interesting. Then I headed south to Sainte Genevieve this is Missouri's oldest White Settlement with houses dating back to the early 1700 other than New Orleans this is the earliest west of the Mississippi. Then I went to Cape Girardeau and camped at the Trail of Tears State Park. The next day I went to downtown Cape along the river there is a river walk with a wall that has scenes all along it. Then I went to an old Fort in Cape called Fort D these were used in the Civil War and there were four, but only Fort D survives. After that I went to Bolger Mill State Park to see the mill and the covered bridge very cool. Then I went to Mammoth Spring Arkansas and Camped along the Spring River very pretty spot. The next day I went North on Highway 19 and saw 2 more Mills first was Greer Mill. This mill was powered by a spring three-quarters of a mile downhill from the mill. They used a water wheel and cables plus pulleys to bring the power to the mill. Wow! The last Mill was falling Spring Mill the spring water came out of the Rockwall about 12 feet above the pool and ran the water wheel. This was the smallest mill I've ever seen. Only 16 ft by 20 ft the owner JW Browns log cabin is still there. It's small to. Then I headed back to beautiful Belton Events coming up Adrian tractor and steam show June 22nd through the 24th trip to Milwaukee July 13th through 15 th (Badger Chap.
