In order to test this, he decides to do the following: eat nothing for breakfast every day for 4 weeks (Weeks 1-4) eat an Egg Breakfast Sandwich every day for 4 weeks (Weeks 5-8), eat a vegan breakfast burrito every day for 4 weeks (Weeks 9-12), and eat a bowl of Cheerios with 2% milk every day for 4 weeks (Week 13-16). He only drank water with breakfast and always ate at 6am. The student recorded all his weekly math quiz scores throughout the time period to see if what he had for breakfast caused any changes. To calculate the mean, add up all of the data points, then divide this total by the number of data points. Median The median is the number that occurs in the middle of the distribution of a data set. To find the median, you should create a number line. Create a number line by placing all the data points on a line, arranging them from least to greatest. Range The range is the span between your highest and lowest value. Subtract the highest valued data point and subtract by the lowest valued data point to find the range.

Data Set B A student wants to see if the birds in his yard prefer certain types of birdseed over others. He placed 4 bowls in his yard and filled it with 30 g of seed Bowl A had sunflower seeds, Bowl B had pumpkin seeds, Bowl C had millet seeds, and Bowl D had a seed mixture of all three. He counted the number of birds at each bowl every day at noon for 7 days. He refilled the bowls every day and each bowl was on a table, free from disturbances about 3 feet off the ground. 1. IV: 2. Data Set C A student wants to see if playing music to plants will affect their growth. She buys 40 tomato plants that are all about the same height and age. She waters and fertilizes all 40 plants. For Group A, she places 10 plants along a windowsill in a silent room. For Group B, she puts 10 plants along a windowsill in another room with continuously playing classical music. For Group C, she puts 10 plants along a windowsill in another room with continuously playing pop music. For Group D, she puts 10 plants along a windowsill in another room with continuously playing heavy metal music. All of these rooms are facing south and both are kept at a temperature of 32 C.
