Term Definition Examples Energy Kinetic (KE) KE = mv 2 2 energy m = mass, v = velocity Potential energy (PE) Gravitational PE = weight X height Mechanical energy (ME) ME = KE + PE Thermal energy The kinetic energy that all objects have due to the movement of the particles that make the object up. Depends on temperature and number of particles. Example: Ice has less thermal energy than steam.
