5 Abstrak tesis yang dikemukakan kepada Senat Universiti Putra Malaysia sebagai memenuhi keperluan untuk ijazah Master Sains. SATU KAEDAH PENGANGGARAN HASILTAMBAH EKSPONEN DUA PEMBOLEHUBAH Oleh SITI HASANA BINTI SAP AR Februari 2001 Pengerusi : Fakulti Profesor Dr. Kamel Ariffin bin Mohd Atan Fakulti Sains dan Pengajian Alam Sekitar menandakan gelanggang integer dan katakan q integer positif dan 1 suatu polinomial dalam X berpekalikan unsur dalam Z. Hasil tam bah eksponen 2m/(x) yang disekutukan dengan 1 ditakrifkan sebagai S(/; q) = Ie q yang dinilaikan bagi semua nilai x di dalam set reja lengkap modulo q. Peranan anggaran S(/; q) adalah penting dalam beberapa bidang kajian teori nombor analisis. Ianya dapat membantu menghasilkan keputusan-keputusan yang lebih jitu dalam masalah-masalah yang berkaitan. Seperti yang telah ditunjukkan oleh beberapa penyelidik terdahulu, antaranya Loxton dan Smith, nilai S( I; q) adalah bersandar kepada penganggaran bilangan unsur IVI yang terdapat dalam set III

6 v = tk mod q I [K == QmodqJ dengan f -K menandakan polinomial-polinomial terbitan separa f terhadap Kajian yang dijalankan merupakan lanjutan daripada kajian pengkaji-pengkaji dahulu. Penyelidikan ini menumpukan kepada masalah penentuan mencari pensifar dalam kes-kes berlakunya pertindihan di bucu dan sisi-sisi gambarajah penunjuk bagi polinomial berdarjah dua dan tiga, seterusnya mencari penganggaran hasil tambah eksponen bagi polinomial-polinomial tersebut. Pendekatan yang dilakukan ialah dengan menggunakan kaedah p- adic dan Teknik Polihedron Newton yang disekutukan dengan polinomiaipolinomial terbabit. IV

The 2mj(x) exponential sum associated to f is defined as S(f;q) = Ie q, where the sum is taken over a complete set of residues modulo q. Estimation of S(f;q) is important in several areas of Analytic Number Theory. It could help to yield a more accurate result in related problems. As shown by several previous researchers, among them Loxton and Smith, they show that the value of S(f;q) depends on the estimation of the number lvi, the number of elements contained in the set v = {Xmodq I Lx == Qmodq} with f K as the partial derivative of f with respect to X = (x ),x2,,xn ). v

8 Our research is a continuation of research done before. This research concentrates on the problem of determining the common zeroes in cases where overlapping occurs at vertices and line segments of indicator diagrams associated for second and third degree polynomials. Subsequently estimations for of an exponential sum for these polynomials are arrived at. The approach is done by using p-adic method and the Newton Polyhedron Techniques which are associated with these polynomials. vi

21 1 BAB I PENGENALAN Latar Belakang Dalarn Teori Nombor Analisis, rarnai pengkaji telah memperihalkan peranan penting hasil tambah eksponen di antaranya ialah Davenport(1959), Igusa(1978) dan Schmidt(1982). Hasil tambah eksponen ditakritkan sebagai S(f;q) = Leq(f(» dengan hasil tambah dinilaikan bagi dalarn set lengkap reja mod q. Hardy dan Littlewood (1919), Deligne (1974), Loxton dan Vaughan (1985) dan rarnai lagi telah mengkaji hasil tarnbah S(f;q) dengan f polinomial tak linear dalarn z[x]. Hasil tambah S(f;q) dalarn kes satu pembolehubah telah dikaji oleh Hardy dan Littlewood (1919) berhubung dengan masalah Waring. Pada tahun 1940, Hua telah mendapati bahawa untuk sebarang & > 0, maka I S(f;q) I Cpl-(Ym & dengan c pemalar yang bersandar kepada m dan & sahaja. Keputusan Hua telah diperbaiki oleh ling-run Chen (1977) yang menunjukkan bahawa jika kandungan bagi f -f(o) perdana relatifterhadap q, maka IS(f;q)1 e7(n+l)ql-(n J

Pada tahun 1974 pula Deligne menunjukkan bahawa untuk suatu nombor perdana p, IS(/;p)1 (m - IY p"h. dengan m menyatakan jumlah darjah bagi sesuatu polinomial f, apabila bahagian homogen bagi 1 berdarjah terbesar tak singular modulo p. Kajian Deligne ini membuka jalan bagi mendapatkan anggaran yang lebih tepat bagi IS(/;q)1 untuk polinomial am 1 dalam beberapa pembolehubah. Contohnya pada tahun 1985, Loxton dan Vaughan telah mendapat anggaran yang lebih tepat bagi hasil tambah IS(/;q)l. Walaubagaimanapun keputusan yang umum bagi polinomial untuk beberapa pembolehubah masih lagi dalam pencarian. Peranan Poligon Newton bagi mendapatkan sifat-sifat pensifar polinomial dalam satu pembolehubah telah diketahui umum. Misalnya dalam membuktikan Teorem Puiseux, iaitu dalam memperkembangkan siri kuasa bagi fungsi algebra, Poligon Newton telah digunakan. Sathye (1983) juga menggunakan kembangan am Newton Puiseux, walaupun dengan menggunakan kaedah yang berlainan. Loxton

23 3 dan Smith (1986) telah mengkaji penggunaan Poligon Newton bagi mendapatkan keputusan yang sama dengan Sathye(1983). Dalam kes p-adic pula, Po ligon Newton dapat menghasilkan maklumat yang lengkap mengenai saiz dan bilangan pensifar bagi polinomial satu pembolehubah dengan pekali dalam Op iaitu tutupan aljabar bagi medan nombor p-adic Q p Pada tahun 1977 pula Koblitz memperkenalkan Poligon Newton dalam kes p-adic bagi polinomial siri kuasa dalam Op[X] dengan Op perluasan medan tutupan aljabar bagi Qp. Beliau menunjukkan bahawa jika A kecerunan bagi suatu tembereng pada Po ligon Newton bagi suatu polinomial f dengan beza N, antara ordinat-ordinat-x titik hujung tembereng itu, maka terdapat N pensifar bagi f dengan peringkat p-adic -A. 25 Mohd Atan dan Loxton (1986) memperkembangkan idea poligon Newton dalam kes p-adic dalam dua pembolehubah dan dikenali sebagai Kaedah Polihedron Newton. Kaedah ini telah digunakan oleh para pengkaji diantaranya Mohd Atan (1986), Abdullah (1992), Chan (1997) dan Heng (1999). Berikut adalah diantara keputusan yang telah diperolehi untuk mendapatkan penganggaran hasil tam bah dengan menggunakan kaedah polihedron Newton. Katakan A perwakilan matriks bagi polinomial linear I dengan pekali dalam gelanggang p-adic Zp dan a > 0, Mohd Atan (1988) menunjukkan bahawa jika a 5, 0 jika a> 0 dengan 0 minimum peringkat p-adic bagi r x r submatrik tak singular bagi A.
