16 RAON status The RAON has phased into prototyping stage. Fabrication of ECR Ion Source is in progress and beam test in late Superconducting magnet assembly is fabricated and being tested. The RAON is undertaking prototyping efforts: RFQ Superconducting cavities through domestic vendors and international vendors Cryomodules through domestic vendors HTS(High Tc Superconductor) quadrupole coil in collaboration with domestic research institutes LTS(Low Tc Superconductor) quadrupole Close collaboration with International Partners such as CEA, CNRS, GSI, IHEP, INFN, KEK, TRIUMF, etc 16

29 RAON Driver Linac RAON SCL is designed to accelerate high intensity beams. Focusing by NC quad doublets rather than SC solenoids. Prototyping of major subsystems is in progress such as ECR ion source, RFQ, superconducting cavities, cryomodules, and HTS superconducting magnets. 29
30 ECR ion source and RFQ prototyping 28 GHz ECR ion source - for high charge, high intensity ion beam production, 28 GHz ECR ion source is employed. - superconducting magnet assembly is under test now. SC magnet RFQ design is completed in Aug/2013 and prototyping is in progress keV/u, 5 meter long - Prototype 1 st brazing failed (April 2014) - brazing process improved - obtained positive results (June 2014) ECR ion source RFQ prototype 30
31 Superconducting Cavity Prototyping QWR Final EBW HWR Clamp up Test SSR1 Clamp up Test SSR2 Clamp up Test Final welding will be done in June by Vitzrotech and SFA. Vertical tests will be performed in 2014.

33 HTS magnet prototyping (High Tc Superconducting) IF separator employs HTS magnets due to high radiation heating. HTS magnet prototyping is in progress. HTS coil for Quadrupole Magnet Stainless steel HTS 12 mm 36 mm First test coil was wound in April. 1. Metal Insulation (stainless steel) 2. Critical current Measured critical current = 202 A (critical current = 207 A ) at LN 2 3. Conduction cooling test at 50 K(on going)
