Ohio State is No. 19 in the latest NCAA RPI. Six Big Ten teams sit in the Top 50. The Buckeyes are ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since the 2010 campaign. The Buckeyes fell out of the national rankings after being ranked for the first time since Ohio State is 11-6 on the road in 2015 and has won five straight road games. The team s ERA is 11th in the country (2.80), which is third-best in the Big Ten. Ohio State is first in the conference in stolen bases (70), fifth in slugging percentage (.399) and wins (31). Overall, the Buckeyes are hitting.275 as a team led by Pat Porter (.315), while Troy Montgomery is batting.309 with a B1G-best 29 stolen bases. He is six shy of tying the OSU single-season record (35). Porter is on a 24-game reached base streak followed by Montgomery (21). Porter has also claimed a hit in each of the last 11 contests. In Big Ten play, Ohio State is second in ERA (2.90), fifth in slugging percentage (.386) and home runs (10). Ohio State is 9-0 in midweek games. The Ohio State pitching staff has collected 22 quality starts, while the offense has claimed seven walkoff wins. The OSU bullpen has collected a 2.44 ERA this season and has allowed just one earned run in the last 10 games. Ohio State went a perfect 3-0 at the classic with two comeback wins. The Snowbird marked the lone tournament on the OSU schedule to begin the year - a change from previous seasons. The Buckeyes then fell in two of three games at FAU Feb in Boca Raton, Fla., and also went 1-2 in three-game set at UAB Feb. 27-March 1 in Birmingham, Ala. However, the Buckeyes bounced back with a two-game sweep at WKU March 8-9 in Bowling Green, Ky. March was a good one for the Buckeyes. They were 15-3 during the second month and went 9-2 during an 11-game homestand from March The Buckeyes won two of three vs. the Spartans March in the first Big Ten series of The team took two of three at Rutgers March and claimed its first B1G sweep since 13 April 4-6 in Columbus vs. Penn State. Two weeks ago, the team claimed three ranked wins over No. 4 Louisville and at No. 24 Nebraska. Last time out, the Buckeyes were swept by No. 6 Illinois. The Buckeyes are 12-6 in April. EXPERIENCE RETURNS FOR THE BUCKEYES Entering the 2015 campaign with little experience is no issue for the Buckeyes. Seven of the nine hitters from 2015 return, including two of the three starting pitchers in the weekend rotation. The team returns a total of 21 letterwinners from Big Ten Freshman of the Year Tanner Tullly returns for his sophomore campaign on the mound, while senior Ryan Riga and sophomore Travis Lakins round out the starting weekend rotation. Senior co-captains Aaron Gretz and Connor Sabanosh will share the catching and designated hitter roles, junior second baseman Nick Sergakis, junior shortstop Craig Nennig, junior third baseman Troy Kuhn, sophmore left fielder Ronnie Dawson, sophomore center fielder Troy Montgomery and senior right fielder Pat Porter all return. Dawson garnered second team All-Big Ten laurels, while Kuhn was selected to the third team. 132ND SEASON OF BASEBALL The 2015 season is the 132nd baseball season in the storied history of the oldest varsity sport at Ohio State. Varsity baseball was first played on the campus of The Ohio State University in the spring of Ohio State baseball has since gone on to achieve remarkable successes, highlighted by: 1 national championship (1966), 15 Big Ten regular-season titles and eight Big Ten Tournament crowns.
