K-State has not lost back-to-back matches this season. The Wildcats (7-3 Big 12) are tied with Oklahoma in the Big 12 standings, with both programs looking up at first-place Texas (9-1). Texas, which lost to Oklahoma at home on Oct. 25, has bounced back with consecutive road wins (Iowa State, 11/1; Texas Tech, 11/5). This will be the second meeting between K-State and Texas this season as the Longhorns swept the Wildcats in Manhattan on Oct. 18. K-State has lost 22 straight matches to Texas as well as 12 consecutive contests in Austin. CONFERENCE START Despite Wednesday s loss in Ames, K-State is still off to a strong start in Big 12 play with a 7-3 record. It marks the second time in the last three years that K-State has started its Big 12 schedule with a 7-3 record (2012). This season is the 10th time in the Big 12 era that K-State started its conference schedule with a 7-3 record or better. TALE OF THE TAPE Friday will be a matchup between two of the Big 12 s top teams in conference-only action. K-State enters the match third in hitting percentage (.241) while Texas is first (.292). In opponent hitting percentage, K-State is also third (.207) while Texas is first (.130). K-State holds the edge in kills/set (2nd, 13.67) and assists/set (1st, 12.72) while Texas is fifth (13.32) and sixth (12.29), respectively. K-State has out-blocked all Big 12 teams in conference action so far with 3.05/set; Texas is second with 2.99/set. BREAKING DOWN THE BLOCK While Texas leads K-State for the lead in blocks/ set for overall matches, the Wildcats pace the conference in blocks for Big 12-only matches Big 12 TV: Longhorn Network // Radio: News Radio 1350 KMAN Online Audio: k-statesports.com // Live Stats: k-statesports.com // Twitter K-State has double-digit blocks in each of its last four matches, in eight of its 10 conference matches and in 15 of its 24 total matches this season. The Wildcats blocks are the eighth-most across NCAA Division I while their 3.02 blocks/ set are 10th-best. K-State has also out-blocked its opponents in 21 of the 24 matches this season, including in eight straight contests. BLOCK PARTY While the K-State block is powered by Natali Jones (1st in Big 12, 114 blocks) and Katie Reininger (5th, 110), the Wildcats are the only Big 12 team with five different players that have 50 or more blocks this season. It is the fifth straight year that five Wildcats have at least 50 blocks and fourth time in the last five years that two Wildcats have 100+ blocks. HELPING HAND Helping pilot the K-State offense to a.250 hitting percentage this overall season is setter Katie Brand, who leads all Big 12 players with assists/set in overall matches. Over the last four matches, in which the Wildcats have combined to hit.290, Brand is averaging assists/set. Across Division I, Brand is 18th in assists/set. Brand, who has 1,002 assists this season and 2,058 in her career, is approaching K-State s top-10 in career assists as she is 49 away from tying 10th-place Kristin Martin (2,107 from ). HEATING UP Katie Brand is also approaching a rare feat in K-State history as she needs seven more digs to become just the second Wildcat in program history to have back-to-back seasons with 1,000 assists, 250 digs, 75 kills, 75 blocks and 10 aces. The last Wildcat to reach this threshold was Devon Ryning in 1996 and Prior to this season, only five times has a Wildcat posted such totals in assists, digs, kills, blocks and aces: Brand, 2013; Gabby Guerre, 2003; Ryning, 1996 and 1997; and Renee Whitney, Brand is second on the team with 2.73 digs/set this season SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time (CT) Green Bay Country Inn & Suites Tournament Aug. 29 at Green Bay W, 3-0 Aug. 30 vs. South Dakota W, 3-0 vs. Arizona L, 3-0 Varney s Invitational (Bramlage Coliseum) Sept. 4 ARKANSAS W, 3-0 Sept. 5 MIDDLE TENNESSEE W, 3-0 Sept. 6 UCF W, 3-0 Sept. 8 MISSOURI ST.
