6 NEBRASKA STATE CERTIFICATION OF SEED POTATOES Authority to Conduct Certification Certification of seed potatoes in Nebraska is conducted by the Potato Certification Association of Nebraska, Alliance, Nebraska. This Agency has been designated by the University of Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Lincoln, Nebraska, to conduct the potato certification program under the State Law, House Roll 67, passed in The Vice Chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (with an Advisory Committee), specifies the Standards for Certification, and reviews all appointments and procedures used by the certifying agency. Standard Nebraska Seed Generations: * Generation Abbreviation Class 1 Prenuclear PN Foundation or Certified Nuclear N Foundation or Certified Generation 1 G1 Foundation or Certified Generation 2 G2 Foundation or Certified Generation 3 G3 Foundation or Certified Generation 4 G4 Foundation or Certified Generation 5 G5 Foundation or Certified * Unless re-rated for viral or bacterial tolerance rating. 1 Certified Class is NOT eligible for recertification in Nebraska. Year(s) in the field FINAL CERTIFICATION The potato seed stocks on this list represent all seed fields which have passed field inspections and are within the tolerance for diseases and mixtures. Final Certification requirements are not complete until these lots have passed a storage (bin) inspection and a final grade inspection prior to tagging and shipment. Eligible seed lots shall also be sampled for a winter test and be approved before replanting as certified seed potatoes in Nebraska. Nebraska Certified Seed Potatoes may be sorted for sale in one of three grades: Blue Tag Grade Yellow Tag Grade Green Tag Grade Best grade - Most rigid requirements for physical defects and size. Nebraska blue tag grade shall be the same as U.S. # 1 seed potato grade. Second Best - More tolerance for physical defects and size. Approximately the same as U.S. Commercial grade. Lowest Grade Buyer-Seller agreement. Inspected for Bacterial Ring Rot only. Lots passing required tests are eligible for Virus-tested tags.
