2 Overview-City of Woodland Woodland is the county seat of Yolo County, located in California's Central Valley. Woodland is located 20 miles northwest of Sacramento at the intersection of Interstate 5 and State Route 113. To the south is the City of Davis, with its University of California campus. The Sacramento International Airport is eight miles to the east. Waterways include the Yolo Bypass and Sacramento River to the east, Willow Slough to the southeast, and Cache Creek to the north. Woodland has a strong historic heritage, which is reflected in an impressive stock of historic buildings in its downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. Woodland's agricultural setting is largely responsible for the community's distinct identity and plays and important economic role in Woodland. Due to its proximity to major transportation nodes, Woodland has also become increasingly important as a manufacturing and distribution center. 3 City of Woodland GIS October 2000: First Regional GIS Coop meeting. June 2002: GIS Specialist is hired : CityWorks implemented, using unattached work orders. PD implements CrimeView. Early 2004: City parcels cogo d and available as GIS layer. Regional Coop begins development of regional, seamless basemap (parcels/centerlines). 2005: Fire dept undertakes RHAVE project with ArcPad on ipaqs and custom forms like the desktop app; Looked at Go! Sync for ArcPad for sync solution. 2006: City launches Economic Development IMS site ( through GIS Planning; PW initiates mobile with Toughbooks, using DataPump. 2007: Sewer/Storm layer completed; Go! Sync MB w/ RL & Inspections purchased for GIS update process.

Capture Asset information into the GIS (for better WO planning & future reporting! No longer put Redlines onto the paper mapbook, never to be seen again! Measure Distance & Radius of assets! Do Tracing for isolation & customer notification! Improve GIS Layers

6 Why we use GO! Sync? Efficiency We needed a less time consuming method of distributing updates. Go!Sync provides an automated backend with a scheduled process that can export and distribute the GIS data daily. With GO! Sync, our total export time takes less than 10 minutes.

7 Why we use GO! Sync? Ease of use Woodland s Go!Sync users cover several generations and varying degrees of comfort using a pc. We needed our viewer to be easy to comprehend, simple to use, and easy to retain. Average training time for Woodland has been approximately 30 minutes per employee.

8 Why we use GO! Sync? Customization Woodland wanted one GIS viewing application with the flexibility to serve the entire city. GO! Sync provides simple methods for customization. Very little training is need to start customizing the application. Customization changes can be executed and distributed quickly without needing to touch every client pc. Users buy into the idea quickly when they can make a suggestion for a change and see it on their pc the same day.

9 Why we use GO! Sync? Advanced Tools Tracing tools allow crews to quickly analyze our electric network to efficiently restore outages. GPS Capable Will enables our crews to locate underground facilities and determine routes much quicker. Redlining tools documents the author and history of each redline created. after syncing, the redlines show up in ArcMap and on all Go!Sync clients. Inspections documents the author each inspection created. after syncing, automatically updates our GIS with inspection data. The inspection module streamlined our inspection process and made the process paperless.

13 Processes (con( con t) WO created in normal fashion (attached or unattached) & processed to Field Crews. Field Crews locate, investigate, process tasks Any GIS related updates (Redline/Attribute) are a checked task on WO and submitted to GOSYNC (CW User) Use the following saving convention (WO#-FacilityID-Date) WO1234-SGM (if missing asset, then make FacID section => SGMunk1, 2, etc). Comment all GIS Updates in your comments section (e.g. SGM#### has wrong material, Attribute has been updated or Lateral needs to be added, RL submitted) GIS division will process changes & post updates, as quickly as possible Changes to Features (i.e. Asset) will be a continuous process for the next couple of years, but will become a time saver once the data is in. Please be as through as possible and everyone will benefit.

17 Inspections & Attributes Updates Make Asset Specific Updates to Attribute Information (size, material, condition, measurements, etc) Each Feature s data is editable Will be QC d by supervisors GIS Division will make updates that will be available to everyone for future planning and reporting.

19 Additional Functionality In progress Inspections: Future Direct read of primary GDB (vs. inspection GDB); automated process for uploaded info back to production GDB (w/o SDE). City Works Integration (select an asset, be able to pull up WO history). Redline/attribute update process as a single step

20 Bottom Line Functionality & Ease of Use GO! Sync provided the field user with more than just a viewer. Mobile GIS became a tool. The field user appreciates the up-to-date data. The field user appreciates the ease of fulfilling Work Order & Service Request.
