One of the three site designations of UNESCO: the other two are World Heritage Sites and Biosphere Reserves UNESCO Global Geoparks are areas with sites and landscapes of international geological significance Sites promote the importance and significance of protecting the Earth s geodiversity Active engagement with the local communities Geopark is a versatile tool for regional development, especially via eco tourism and environmental education 2
