6 National Geopark Committees China, set up 11 National Geoparks in 2000 Greece, founded in 2011, press articles, meeting planned in October, assisting to three areas wishing to become GGN member Ireland: founded in 2010 under auspices of the two Irish Geological Surveys, regular meetings Italy: founded in 2009, regular meetings and workshops, discussing normative instruments eventually new law on geo-heritage Portugal: founded in 2011, strong support of UNESCO NatCom, officialized the Committee with the Minister of foreign affairs Spain: under preparation, meeting in May fixing the structure of the Committee and statutes, now being studied by the Spanish Geoparks UK: formed in 2011, including all UK GGN members and different national heritage organizations, main aim support aspiring Geoparks, share good practice Other counties committees under preparation

34 Annexes Annex 1: Self evaluation document Annex 2: An additional and separate copy of section B Geological Heritage of the application, prefaced by a geological summary of a maximum of 150 words (this will be used only for the geological desktop evaluators from IUGS International Union of Geological Sciences) Annex 3: A letter of support from the relevant governmental authorities linked to UNESCO in the country where the Geopark project is located The full application must not exceed 50 pages (including all photographs, maps, figures and diagrams) and the electronic version must not exceed a file size of 10MB. As the UNESCO mail server only takes up to 5 MB files we propose that you post the e-file via a sending engine like
