Science Jeopardy
JEOPARDY RULES Teams will consist of 3-4 students. Write your answers on your white boards. DO NOT CRUSH MARKER TIPS!! Teams have only 8 seconds to write their answer. You MUST work as a team. Writing answers must be rotated to include all teammates. Keep answers covered until everyone reveals. All teams reveal answers at the same time. All teacher decisions are final.
Vocab Terms 1 Vocab Terms 2 Chemical or Physical PROPERTY? Chemical or Physical CHANGES? SOLID, LIQUID or GAS? CHANGES IN STATE FINDING DENSITY
20 Points What is a SOLID? A state of matter with a definite shape and definite volume. Substances in this state are considered frozen even if they are not cold.
40 Points What is a LIQUID? This state of matter can take the shape of any container, because it has a definite volume but not a definite shape.
60 Points What is are DENSITY? This term is defined by the mass per unit volume of a substance. We calculate it by using this formula:
80 Points What is a PHYSICAL PROPERTY? Any characteristic of matter that you can observe without changing the identity of the substances that make it up.
100 Points What is SOLUBILITY? The ability of one substance to dissolve in another.
120 Points What is a CHEMICAL CHANGE? A change in matter in which the substances that make up the matter change into other substances with different physical and chemical properties.
20 Points What is a GAS? This state of matter can be expanded (spread out) or compressed (crushed in), because it does not have a definite shape nor a definite volume.
40 Points What is MASS? This is the term for the amount of matter in an object.
60 Points What is VOLUME? This is the amount of space that a sample of matter occupies.
80 Points What is a CHEMICAL PROPERTY? The ability or inability of a substance to combine with or change into one or more new substances.
100 Points What is a PHYSICAL CHANGE? A change in size, shape, form, or state of matter that does not change the matter s identity.
120 Points The total mass of the reactants before a reaction is equal to the total mass of the products after the chemical reaction? OR MORE SIMPLY total mass before = total mass after - DOUBLE JEOPARDY QUESTION - DOUBLE POINTS!!!!! This is what the Law of Conservation of Mass states.
20 Points What is a PHYSICAL PROPERTY? IS THIS A CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTY? The ability to dissolve.
40 Points What is a PHYSICAL PROPERTY? IS THIS A CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTY? The ability to change from solid to a liquid.
60 Points What is SHABAMMA-LAMMA? Your team earns 60 points FOR FREE!
80 Points What is a PHYSICAL PROPERTY? IS THIS A CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTY? The ability to become magnetic.
100 Points What is a CHEMICAL PROPERTY. IS THIS A CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTY? The ability to burn.
120 Points What is a CHEMICAL PROPERTY? IS THIS A CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTY? The ability to rust. FOR DOUBLE POINTS What is the scientific term for rusting or tarnishing?
20 Points What is a PHYSICAL CHANGE? A child using crayons to make a coloring book picture very pretty.
40 Points What is CHEMICAL CHANGE? A log burning to form a pile of ashes.
60 Points What is a PHYSICAL CHANGE? Bending the metal disk in a Sodium Acetate hand warmer to change the Sodium Acetate into a hot solid to warm your hands.
80 Points What is a PHYSICAL CHANGE? Dissolving a chocolaty powdered mixture in hot water to make hot chocolate.
100 Points What is a CHEMICAL CHANGE? Storing Potassium Iodide in a brown bottle to keep the clear liquid away from light keeps it from having this kind of change.
120 Points What is a CHEMICAL CHANGE? Dissolving Alka Seltzer in a glass of water and seeing the bubbles rise to the top of the glass.
20 Points What is a GAS? This is a type of substance that has no definite shape or volume.
40 Points What is a LIQUID? This is a type of substance that has a definite volume but not a definite shape. It can take on the shape of any container that it is placed in.
60 Points What is FROZEN? This is a scientific term used to describe a solid, since a solid s atoms cannot move out of the place they are in.
80 Points What is SOLID? This is a type of substance that has a definite volume and a definite shape.
100 Points What is a SOLID? This state of matter has atoms very close together, have strong gravitational forces that hold them close, and has atoms that vibrate in place and cannot exchange places with other atoms.
120 Points What is 96 (ninety six)? (6 C x 6 protons each) + (12 H x 1 proton each) + (6 O x 8 protons each) = 96 protons This is the total number of protons in one molecule of glucose. (I ll give you extra time to do this one! )
20 Points What is MELTING? The process of changing from a solid to a liquid.
40 Points What is EVAPORATING? The process of changing from a liquid to a gas. FOR DOUBLE POINTS: What is the common term for this process sped up due to adding thermal energy?
