2 University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, NC Postdoctoral Researcher Fall 2014 Spring 2015 Supervised four undergraduate students in academic research focused on the asymmetric total synthesis of natural products. Responsibilities included training the students in synthetic lab techniques, the handling of chemical reagents, training in the use of necessary instrumentation such as NMR, mass spectrometry, and IR, the monitoring of progress on individual projects, the discussion of results and synthetic planning, and the critiquing and guiding of each student through the process of writing a final written report on their research. Each student made significant progress and, and one student successfully completed her total synthesis. Students final reports available upon request. Christina Lai (UNC 15): Total Synthesis of the Bicyclic Polyketide Lactone Polyrhacitide A ( ) Ashley Harris (UNC 15): Total Synthesis of the Bicyclic Polyketide Lactone Polyrhacitide A (2013) Glynis L. Coyne (UNC 16): Asymmetric Total Synthesis of an Analogue of (-)-Pironetin ( ) - synthesized Nathan S. Suskovic (UNC 15): Asymmetric Total Synthesis of (+)-Anphanamol ( ) Duke University Durham, NC Analytical Chemistry; Laboratory Teaching Assistant Laboratory course focused on analytical lab techniques. Responsibilities included the setting up of the atomic absorption/emission (AA/AE) and cyclic voltammetry/coulometry experiments and instructing individual students on using the instrumentation and conducting said experiments. Each student was graded objectively based on results from setting up the experiment. (Spring 2008, Fall 2008, Fall 2009, Fall 2011) Advanced Synthetic Techniques; Teaching Assistant Laboratory course focused on advanced synthetic and other laboratory techniques. Responsibilities included the instruction, supervision, and training of students in advanced lab techniques and chemical characterization, and grading of written reports. (Spring 2009) Organic Chemistry; Recitation Teaching Assistant Recitation teaching assistant position for second semester organic chemistry lecture course. Responsibilities included conducting recitation sections for students, helping write problem sets and exams for the professor teaching the course, and supervising the grading and regarding of course exams. (Spring 2010) Organic Chemistry I & II; Laboratory Teaching Assistant Basic organic chemistry laboratory courses. Responsibilities included developing pre-laboratory lectures, instructing and supervising students in organic chemistry laboratory techniques and experiments, the checking of laboratory notebooks, the grading of student lab reports, and the grading of

3 lecture exams. Laboratory reports were graded based on a course-wide grading rubric. (Summer 2 nd Session 2008, Summer 1 st and 2 nd Session 2009, Summer 1 st and 2 nd Session 2010, and Summer 2 nd Session 2012) General Chemistry; Laboratory Teaching Assistant Summer general chemistry course taught with an emphasis on preparing students to take organic chemistry. Students conducted organic chemistry reactions while3 gaining experiences relevant for a general chemistry laboratory course. Teaching assistant responsibilities included assisting in prelaboratory lectures, instructing and supervising students in laboratory techniques and handling of chemical reagents, the introduction of characterization techniques (NMR, IR, GC-MS) to students, laboratory notebook checking, and the critical assessment of student posters at the end of the summer session. (Summer 2012) Advanced General Chemistry; Laboratory Teaching Assistant Laboratory course for students who obtained Advanced Placement credit in general chemistry with an emphasis on biological chemistry. Responsibilities included developing pre-laboratory lectures, instructing and supervising students in laboratory techniques and experiments, the checking of laboratory notebooks, the grading of student lab reports, and the grading of lecture exams based on a course-wide rubric. (Fall 2007) Research University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, NC Experience Advisor: Michael T. Crimmins September 2012 August 2015 Postdoctoral research on the total synthesis of marine natural products, such as Brianthein A, utilizing the dianionic Ireland-Claisen rearrangement. Extended the use of the dianionic Ireland-Claisen rearrangement to more structurally diverse and complex substrates. Duke University Durham, NC Advisor: Don M. Coltart August 2007 July 2012 Explored the inherent anti selectivity of the aldol addition of chiral N-amino cyclic carbamate (ACC) hydrazones with aldehydes. This work led to development of the asymmetric total synthesis of the anti-malarial drug mefloquine hydrochloride utilizing an asymmetric Darzens reaction of an ACC hydrazone. Both enantiomers of the drug were prepared separately for biological testing. College of Charleston Charleston, SC Advisor: Charles F. Beam May 2005 August 2007 Synthesized numerous heteroaromatic compounds using strong base techniques. Syntheses involved the formation of di- or trianion derivatives of ketones, hydrazones, or oximes and their subsequent condensation with carbonyl compounds followed by cyclization.
