2 Graphene Synthesis, Characterization and More Research experience During my Ph.D. I carried on a surface science project on Graphene and low dimensional molecular systems based on photoemission and diffraction techniques (in house equipment at the LoTUS laboratory, University of Rome La Sapienza, and ultra-violet and soft X-Rays synchrotron radiation techniques) in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environment. My interest in research concerns the experimental study of: Graphene on metallic surfaces and its functionalization; surface supported metal-organic hybrid molecules arranged in low-dimensional nano-architectures. In particular, during the master and Ph.D. thesis formation I focused on: Synthesis of Graphene on metallic substrates (Ir(111), Ni(111)) by means of Temperature Programmed Growth (TPG) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and subsequent intercalation of cobalt mono-layers; Realization of ordered 2D nanostrctures of metal-organics exploiting self-assembly vs. substrate driven arrangement competition; Characterization of the adsorbate/substrate interface interaction (Metal-Phthalocyanines in the 3d series on Graphene and gold); Characterization of the electronic and magnetic properties of hybrid metal-organic systems. PES, ARPES and NEXAFS XMCD STM UHV/Surface physics Experimental techniques experience Surface-science competences; synthesis of Graphene on metallic substrates; adatoms deposition and intercalation underneath Graphene; growth of ordered low-dimensional metalorganic architecture by molecular epitaxy; investigation by means of electron spectroscopies and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). Expertise in the photoemission (with soft X-Rays and ultraviolet radiation, with and without angular resolution) and soft X-Ray absorption, gained during the master and Ph.D. thesis periods, in the in-house facility at the LoTUS laboratory in Rome and during many synchrotron beamtimes at (Trieste), ALBA-CELLS (Barcelona). Magnetic characterization of metal-organic nano-architectures by means of the XMCD technique. Etrapolation of quantitative information on the system magnetic state by means of XMCD data analysis and sums rules application. Brief experience with the simulation software CTM4XAS, for multiplet calculations. Brief experience (1 month) with temperature dependent (4-300 K) STM technique, gained in the laboratoty of Prof. Mario Rocca and Prof. Luca Vattuone (Physics Department, University of Genova, Italy). Developed skills with the UHV equipment and surface-science sample preparation and characterization techniques. Experience in synchrotron radiation facilities equipment.
