1 Deliverable 1.1.1: Job Advertisement for Recruitment of SERs The CCQCN Project is funded in the framework of the EC's SEVENTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME (FP7-REGPOT ) under Grant Agreement n
2 Project no Project acronym: CCQCN Project full title: Crete Center for Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology REGPOT SEVENTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME Deliverable Job Advertisement for Recruitment of SERs Dissemination level: PU
3 Job Advertisement for Recruitment of SERs Crete Center for Quantum Complexity and Nanotechnology WP1 focuses on activities that strengthen the research potential of the Center and increase its international competitiveness. This is accomplished by hiring talented individuals that will strengthen the research capabilities. The hiring effort of the Center started once the proposal evaluation outcome became known and intensified from the project start date on. For the recruitment to succeed, the Center (via the University of Crete s administrative authorities, obeying both Greek and EU laws and procedures) advertised the position openings via EURAXESS, the University of Crete s position announcement system, the Center s website ( after Sept 1, 2013), as well as by direct contacts with the twinning institutions. Task 1 (T1-WP1) of WP1 focuses on the recruitment of five senior experienced researchers (SER). A SER is a researcher that has already at least three to four years of previous postdoctoral research experience and he/she is working in areas that are reasonably close to the topics under investigation by the Center. He/she should be able to launch his/hers own independent research, to guide graduate students, participate in all aspects of the activities of the Center (seminars, exchange visits, workshops) and influence the research policy for the Center. As described in the DoW, the SER is envisioned as a prospective junior faculty member who, after establishing a successful track record in the Center, will compete for a position in the Department of Physics. The five SER s will be theorists or experimentalists focusing on the research topics addressed by the Center. They will support actively and participate in all intellectual activities of the Center, i.e. contribute in the Center workshops, guide ERs as well as graduate students, deliver seminars and initiate visits from the twinning institutions as well as participate in the Center mobility. At the same time, they will bear also responsibility for linking the different groups of the Center and creating an intellectual atmosphere that assists collaborative work. In order to fill the 5 planned SER positions, three position openings announcements (advertisements) were conducted on (a) April 30, 2013, (b) June 14, 2013, and (c) November 28, Appendix I presents the EURAXESS first advertisement (30/4/2013), Appendix II presents the EURAXESS second advertisement (14/6/2013), and Appendix III presents the EURAXESS third advertisement (28/11/2013). The procedure for hiring the SERs is the following: (a) the SER positions are advertised; (b) the prospective SERs (applicants) apply before the deadline; (c) the Positions Evaluation Committee (established by the University of Crete, obeying Greek and EU laws and regulations) evaluates all applicants and prepares the Evaluation Report, which is sent for ratification to the Research Committee of the University of Crete (which assembles monthly or bi-monthly); (d) once ratified, the contract is prepared following all Greek and EU rules and regulations; (e) the contract is signed by the researcher and by the University of Crete s legal representatives; (f) the accepted researcher is
4 responsible for completing visa requirements (if needed) and all relevant legal paperwork in the regional authorities in order to be legally legitimate for work in Greece. Contracts are awarded for a one-year period after which they can be extended (decision is made by the Management Committee based on the overall performance of the researcher). In case of one or more SERs cannot come or for personal/professional reasons terminate the appointment at an earlier date than planned, CCQCN will hire additional SERs to fulfill the overall p- month research effort. This will happen throughout the course of the three year duration period of the project. During the first year, CCQCN has filled all 5 SERs positions as can be seen in the following Table: CCQCN SER RESEARCH PERSONNEL ΝΑΜΕ SER/ER Date of Position Announcement Date of Decision (by QCN Committee) Date of beginning of Contract SERs Dr. Nikolaos Lazaridis SER 30/4/ /06/2013 1/9/2013 Dr. Vasilios Niarchos SER 30/4/ /06/2013 1/9/2013 Dr. Georgios Neofotistos SER 14/6/ /07/2013 1/9/2013 Dr. Patrick Henri Navez SER 28/11/ /3/2014 1/5/2014 Dr. Oksana Shramkova SER 28/11/ /6/2014 1/10/2014 The Evaluation Reports and the job contracts for the SERs will be presented in Deliverable
