3 Paper Ce bioogy The ce is the basic unit in iving organisms. Pants, animas and bacteria are formed of different types of ce. There are two broad groups of ces prokaryotic ces (bacteria) and eukaryotic ces (the ces in pants and animas). Ces can differentiate and become speciaised for different functions. Stem ces are undifferentiated ces that can divide to produce ces of the same type and can produce other types of ce through differentiation. Ces divide by the process of mitosis. The processes of diffusion, osmosis and active transport are important in moving substances into and out of ces. Ce bioogy 0 Aseptic techniques are procedures used to transfer microorganisms without causing contamination. a A student was transferring bacteria from a cuture botte to a Petri dish. She used the fame of a Bunsen burner to steriise an inocuating oop. Immediatey after faming the inocuating oop she paced it into the cuture botte to obtain some of the bacteria to be transferred. She then removed the Petri dish id and set it down carefuy on a cean part of the aboratory bench. At this stage, she transferred the bacteria to the Petri dish by genty giding the oop over the agar. After this was done she then paced the Petri dish id back on and paced the oop and the cuture botte in the sink for washing. i This student did not show good aseptic technique when carrying out the transfer.
