3 Exressionen Exressionen, a suite o miniatures or clarinet, cello and accordion, had its origin in the autumn o 01 through a co- oeration roect ith the Sara Hildén art museum The suite had its Airst erormance on the th o Novemer 01 in the event To e heard rom the icture arranged y the art museum, here also the comoser Jouni Kaikainen, the artist Lars Holmström and the art collector Vexi Salmela discussed the connections eteen visual arts and music At once ater hearing aout the roect in Setemer 01, I ent to the Sara Hildén art museum to se the exressionistic exhiition, to hich e ere asked to comose music The names o my miniatures are the same as the names o the ictures, hich insired me to comose them It as a unny coincidence that the nine ictures that insired me ere all ainted y dierent artists I anted to get as many comi- nations as ossile rom the trio I had chosen, so that is hy I chose to rite nine miniatures, or an as symmetric result as ossile (three solo ieces, three duo ieces and three trios) Exressionen is a stylistic exercise in exressionism, that is hy I have tried to comose the suite in the style o the early tentieth century The ieces don t strive or systematic atonalism (like Schönerg ith his 1- tone ros), ut still strive aay rom tonality From the interval structure you can Aind a lot o symmetry, ut the most imortant element in the ieces is their character; I have tried to create ith every iece a atmoshere authentic to the one in the original icture Tamere th Aril 01 Cecilia Damström
