1 Informa Economics Geographic Information Systems The value of data increases tremendously when presented in a clear and insightful way. In agriculture, the majority of information has some geographical reference. As a result, computer mapping can assist in visualizing and analyzing information, helping you quickly identify patterns and relationships within a given geographical area. Geographic information systems (GIS) provide the ability to employ numerous map layers containing different types of information. Data forms the building blocks of these maps and by stacking those layers of information one on top of the other; detailed maps can be constructed Canola Density 150 to to to to 75 Informa has developed extensive geographic information system (GIS) databases and models to enhance our understanding of agricultural data. In addition to maintaining a database of Statistics Canada and USDA information, Informa combines detailed data from trusted agencies (Canadian Grain Commission, Statistics Canada, Provincial Ag departments, PFRA, grain company reports and other industry sources), with our supply and disposition crop outlook estimates. For example, agricultural census information includes the following: farm type, land use, tenure and land management practices, crops, livestock, and farm business characteristics. Moreover, computer mapping is more than just a visual representation of data or information. Complex geographic analysis such as redistricting, buffering and creating thematic maps that emphasize patterns can be combined with your company s information. GIS analysis can provide a greater level of understanding of a selected region by getting behind the visual representation and drilling down into the hard data to answer specific questions. 2 Western Canadian Acreage Density Maps - Informa develops and maintains comprehensive information databases for agricultural commodities in many countries around the world. Starting with the most current acreage data available from Statistics Canada, Informa develops a Canadian census consolidated subdivision (CCS) 1 level acreage density map for the major and emerging crops Canada. 3 North American Commodity Processing Maps - In addition to crop production information, Informa Economics also maintains several processor databases including the following: oilseed crushers, barley maltsters, wheat millers, oat millers, ethanol and biodiesel processors, and livestock processing facilities. As a result, Informa can generate maps and perform specific industry analysis.
