1 21st Century Global Learning A focus for 7th grade is on the ever-increasing global interactions in society. This focus includes a study of various societies and regions from every continent. We have already started to understand how culture unites and divides modern societies and how cultural expressions influence modern society. This We are the World study will provide each student an opportunity to apply the 4 C s of learning: critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Students has been randomly assigned a country to research. We want them to become an expert in their assigned country. Each student will: Part 1: Create a decorative country (paper) plate (early October) Part 2: Create a Tri-Fold Presentation Board (Late October) Part 3: Light Up the Night Activity (Late November) Time management, organization, researching skills and avoiding plagiarism will be emphasized throughout the quarter. Rubrics will be assigned for each activity.
2 Decorative Country Plate Part 1 (a checkpoint for the country project) QUIZ grade Due: The purpose of this assignment is to help you begin your research for the country project. Create a decorative paper plate for your country. Here is your chance to be creative! You may use printed pictures, cut out pictures, or draw your pictures BUT make sure the plate is neat, colorful, and informative. 3 Country Tri-Fold Board Part 2 When: This project board will be presented on: October 31, Because this is a month-long project, no deadlines will be extended beyond the due date. Plan accordingly. How: You will be given some time in class to research but may need more time outside of class to continue research. You will be using the Five Themes of Geography to guide your learning. 1. Region-continent, landforms, landmarks, square miles, elevation 2. Place- government type (and its leader), major religions, climate, languages, arts, cultural norms 3. Location-approximate latitude and longitude, major cities, capital, tourist attractions 4. Movement-transportation, exports and industries, famous people; ideas 5. Human Environmental Interaction-canals, dams, reservoirs, man-made lakes, pollution, population density In addition to this information, you must also include: a. A colored map that shows the capital and neighboring water/ countries b. A flag in its color: drawn, printed or real c. List of Resources used in MLA format called a Works Cited Page
4 Country Tri-Fold Board Rubric A project should represent your best effort. Your tri-fold board should be visually appealing and interesting. Overall Appearance: 15 points Country s Name is included prominently on board Pictures, maps and flag are in color (may be hand-drawn or printed) Expectations: 35 points Neatly written in ink or typed Displayed on a Tri-Fold Board Free of spelling errors Free of punctuation or capitalization errors Free of grammatical or sentence structure errors Free of content written from sources (plagiarism) List of sources used in MLA format (Works Cited Page) Expected Content: 50 points Region continent landforms square miles elevation landmarks Place government type and leader Major Religions Climate Languages Arts/ Cultural Norms Location latitude longitude major cities capital city tourist attractions Movement common transportation methods exports industries famous people ideas H-E Interaction Types of manmade features such as canals, dams, lakes, reservoirs, railroads population density pollution Total : 100 points If you find something else that interests you, feel free to include this information
