2 PROJECT OVERVIEW Overall Objectives facilitates an Alpine Ecological (Connectivity) Network. It heads for integrating wildlife management and defragmentation approaches into sectoral policies. 4 ACTIVITIES Creating an Alps-wide planning tool for a smooth transition to a more connected Alpine macro-region Integrating wildlife management & connectivity in sectoral policies Defining Strategic Alpine Conservation Areas (SACA) to enhance ecological connectivity within and beyond the Alps Strengthening the Network for Ecological Connectivity at all levels within the EUSALP perimeter Developing guidelines for the resolution of human-nature conflicts 4

5 ACTIVITIES Strategic Alpine Conservation Areas The structuring of the Alpine and EUSALP territory in three classes of Strategic Alpine Connectivity Areas (SACA) will offer the possibility to better target actions for ecological connectivity in these areas and increase the impact of these actions. 5

6 Categories 1 Ecological Conservation Areas (ECA) Favorable situation for ecological connectivity Mainly need conservation of the favorable status Well targeted large scale conservation policy 2 Ecological Intervention Areas (EIA) High potential for ecological connectivity High impact with relatively low investment Highlighting the most favorable spots for interventions Development of a adapted spatial planning policy + single well placed actions (wildlife passages, etc) SACA Mapping 6
