2 Swedish National Data Service Established SND is a service organisation for Swedish research within the Humanities, Social Sciences and Medicine. SND is the Swedish node in an international network of data archives. This network is an important part of the research infrastructure.

3 The mis s ion SND shall offer support for Swedish research by facilitating and developing the researchers access to data inside and outside the country and offer support for research through out the entire research process SND has the responsibility for a long-term preservation and dissemination of digital material of value for research in SND s coverage area.

4 INSPIRE in Sweden In June 2006, the Swedish Government commissioned Lantmäteriet the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority, to coordinate geodata nationally. The aim is to create a national infrastructure for geodata. The national infrastructure for geodata will make it easier to access geodata, and thereby maximise the benefit to society from the geodata that exists in Sweden.

5 National infrastructure for geodata The coordination responsibility means that Lantmäteriet will develop and administer the national infrastructure for geodata together with the Swedish local authorities, county administrative boards and other authorities and organisations coordinate and support the national implementation of the INSPIRE directive explain and interpret the INSPIRE requirements be the national contact point towards the European Commission

6 The Swedish geodata strategy The Geodata strategy forms the basis for the National infrastructure for geodata To create increased benefit to society, through better access and easier use of geodata, a fundamental structure is needed - a national geodata strategy. The National Geodata Strategy is the plan for how the infrastructure will be built. The strategy will serve as a guidance for all actors in Sweden. It is the common basis to create the infrastructure, and to support Sweden's actions in the European and international cooperation within the field. The work with the Geodata Strategy contributes to the development of Swedish e-governance. It also supports the development of Swedish industry and meets the demands from the EU-directives INSPIRE and PSI. The aim is to create increased cooperation within the geodata field through clarity and guidance for producers and users of geodata.

7 Business model Main points Authorities affected by INSPIRE offer each other their geodata for use in authority-related business Other information owners may also make their geodata available through this collaborative venture Other end users, who are not part of the circle of authorities responsible for information, buy licences for the right to use the information Refiners, i.e. everyone who wants to develop new products and services based on geodata, are recommended to purchase a refiner licence Special licence terms and conditions apply for research, education and general public use

9 Other end users Contribution Agreement Stakeholders, who fulfill basic requirements, can sign the Contribution Agreement and thereby have the right to publish metadata make their geodata products accessible via the Geodata Portal, the opportunity to contribute to the development of the infrastructure for geodata.

10 Standardisation The Geodata Council and the Swedish standardisation organisation SIS/Stanli cooperate on standards for the implementation of the Swedish geodata strategy. ISO is the basis for the technical framework used for geodata in Sweden The taxonomy database Ekvator, with over 1300 terms and their definitions is maintained by SIS/Stanli

11 The Geodata Portal The Geodata Portal presents which geodata and where the geodata can be found. It is the entrance for Sweden's cooperation in Europe, according to the INSPIRE directive. The Portal comprises a national metadata catalogue which describes available geodata, their quality and conditions for use.
