Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The Cowgirls will play Texas Tech in the first round on Friday at 5 p.m. OSU and the Red Raiders will play in the main field, while Kansas and Iowa State play at the alternate field. The game will be broadcast live on the radio (KGFY FM) with Bill Van Ness handling the call. OSU swept the Red Raiders this past weekend in Stillwater, winning 2-1 on Saturday before a run-rule 8-0 victory on Sunday. About is overall this season and finished with an 8-10 mark in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls have won four of their last six games. As a team, OSU is batting.280 and averaging four runs per game. The Cowgirl pitching staff has compiled a 2.38 earned run average with 16 shutouts. Five Cowgirls have scored at least 20 runs and four have also collected at least 25 runs batted in. OSU is 26-5 when the pitching staff does not allow a home run and 21-4 when committing zero errors. This will be OSU s first appearance as the No. 7 seed since the Big 12 formed, and just the fifth time that the Cowgirls will compete as one of the bottom-four seeds. OSU advanced to the championship game in both 1997 and 2001, both times as the No. 5 seed. Series with Tech leads the all-time series with Texas Tech 28-10, including a 3-2 mark in the Big 12 Championship. The Cowgirls have lost four of the last seven, but won 13 of the last 17 contests. is 4-2 in extra-inning contests and 11-5 in shutouts. Centerfielder Kelsey Anchors is batting.313 with seven doubles. She has scored 15 runs and has 11 RBIs. First baseman Julie Ward is batting.272 with nine home runs, seven doubles, 35 runs batted in and 22 runs scored. Starting shortstop Chelsea Garcia has started every game this season and is currently batting.228 with four home runs, four doubles, 21 runs scored and 15 RBIs. Young Infield s starting infield consists of two sophomores and two freshmen. Freshman Julie Ward has manned first base for more than 60 percent of the season. 3 In the Record Books Several Cowgirls are moving up in the re c o rd books. Mariah Gearhart holds the career record for hit by pitches with 34. She tied the season record last season with 16 and currently has 18 this year, establishing a new record. She ranks second in both stolen bases for a season (31) and a career (55). Her career total surpassed Cyndi Smith, who had 47 in She surpassed Smith s single season total of 28 during the 1996 season. Gearhart s 44 runs scored ranks fourth in a single season in school history. She needs three runs to move past Shanel Scott for the most runs by a sophomore. Alysia Hamilton s 46 RBIs this season are the fourthmost in school history. She needs five more to move into a tie for second place. 4 Miscellaneous Notes Eleven different Cowgirls have hit at least one home run this season, and four have hit four or more... five different Cowgirls have a 50 percent or better success rate at advancing runners, led by Alysia Hamilton s 57 percent... RHP Anna Whiddon has allowed just 63 hits in 417 atbats by right-handed hitters, a.151 batting average... Kelsey Anchors, the No. 9 hole hitter, has reached base safely in 10 of 22 opportunities as the leadoff hitter... OSU has not lost a game when leading after six innings (22-0)... freshman Julie Ward established a school record with eight RBIs against McNeese State on Feb one game later, against Central Florida, she was intentionally walked four times, the first time in school history that has occurred. History of has a rich tradition in the sport of softball. The Cowgirls have made six trips to the Women s College World Series and have never finished lower than fourth in any of those six appearances.
