3 Year 7 Science Bohunt Standards Spring/Summer Term Grade Cells, body systems and reproduction Chemical reactions and energy Rearrange magnification equation to calculate cell size and to convert magnification values to micro and nano meters. Describe and explain the function of specialised cells within organs e.g. ciliated epithelial cells within respiratory system. Evaluate benefits of internal vs external fertilisation. Explain function of key organs within organ systems and understand how the organ systems work together e.g. respiratory and circulatory. Predict the consequences of damage to a joint, bone or muscle. Explain the sequence from ovulation to feritilisation to implantation to birth (inc function of placenta and umbilical cord). Calculate magnification. Describe the role of hormones in the menstrual cycle. Can relate the structure of the lungs to efficient gas exchange. Can balance symbol equations. Critically evaluate combustion of fossil fuels and discuss alternatives. Can use patterns to predict products of thermal decomposition reactions / the salt formed in neutralisation / exo or endo from bond strength data. Can balance simple symbol equations with some support. Can use models to explain the conservation of mass theory. Can explain chemical reactions in terms of energetics of bonds breaking (requiring energy) and bond making (releasing energy) and the overall effect. Describe uses of neutralisation reactions. Can explain what thermal decomposition is. Write simple symbol equations for chemical reactions.

Describe key stages within menstrual cycle i.e shedding of uterus. maturing of eggs, ovulation and possible fertilisation. Use a microscope to observe cells (focussing). Begin to write word equations for chemical reactions and understand the term reactant and product. Can confidently represent data in a graphical form e.g. for temperature difference. Recall formulae and symbols for common elements and compounds. Describe combustion reactions. Can distinguish if a reaction is exothermic or endothermic. Can use ph scale to identify substances as alkali, acidic or neutral. Can clearly define an element, mixture and compound using particle diagrams. 3 Draw and label some organelles within plant and animal cells. Describe the role of the heart, lungs and skeletal systems. Can complete simple word equations. Name a fuel and state its use. 2 Name parts of a cell. Name some organs within respiratory, circulatory, skeletal, reproductive systems. Name some signs of a chemical reaction. Name a substance that is an acid or alkali. Can calculate temperature difference.
