Table of Contents Main Goal Background Urban platform as Ontological space: Where to map? Functions Who to map? Agents How to map? Relationship Why to map? Problems Metropolitan city of Florence Functions Agents Relationship Problems A Urban Platform Hipothesis 3
Main Goal Support strategic decision making in innovation policy Our research arises from the will to understand the relational dynamics that exist between the structuring of new (or renewed) centers of urbanity and the innovative entrepreneurial dynamics influencing (and influenced by) new relational/spatial configurations 4
Background 1/3 new forms of modification of the urban system (space and function) follow the presence of new innovative actors (empirical lit: Johns & Gratton 2013; Moriset 2014; Merkel 2015) Innovative ecosystem are now far from SP : innovative centers are embedded in urban fabric «We need a perspective» 5
6
Background 2/3: New Science of city New innovation ecosystem: evidence from different kinds of agent and different self-organising network INSIDE the city (empirical lit: Johns & Gratton 2013; Moriset 2014; Merkel 2015) Core elements of a new science of city: urban fabric as a CAS (Michael Batty, 2012) City as a set of networks from which endogenously (naturally) emerge through a bottom-up process From location to interaction and interactive processes Power Law From Optimization problem to self-organization problem solving (Batancourt 2015) 7
Background 3/3: New Science of city urban systems create dense agglomerations of competencies necessary for keeping up with a shifting techno-scientific frontier urban systems have to develop the ability to organize dynamics subspaces of the global workspace and the capabilities of creating and clustering material and immaterial resources. A crucial strategy might be to create innovative eco-systems, triggered and sustained through platform 8

In-depth analisys ad-hoc: Literature review about co-working Desk analysis based on agent s website Interview (summer-fall 2017) with a snowball methodology 27
Mapping Problems 2 nd - Stakeholder problem: we must be attractive to investment. We must promote our skills We need new tools to recognize and promote our competencies and, in the mean time, we need to boost our innovation ecosystem.
