2 Hermes from the Stones: The Neolithic Origins of Hermitism & Heliocentricity BY Hank Harrison Introduction The heliocentric solar system has traditionally been attributed to Copernicus. Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake by Savanarolla in 1600 for proselytizing for a sun centered concept and Galileo was only recently forgiven by the Vatican for teaching it. The fact that the earth and planets revolve around the sun has always been thought of as anathema to the Roman Catholic church and several other groups, so much so that the concept, as we know it today, has become dilute and is taken as a truism with no real understanding of its impact on human behavior. Recent interpretations of Megalithic stones in Ireland, Bretagne and even England indicate that the observation that the earth rotates around the sun, was not, invented by Copernicus, although he may have rediscovered it, but was rather understood by Stone Age cairn and monument builders. Moreover, evidence that this heliocentric view was passed on from a period as early as 4000 BC, is now plausable. Hermetic pagan writers who reached their most powerful influence in France and Italy during the period of Pax Romana, taught that the God Hermes, essentially the Roman God of communication, emerged from a heap of stones and that the Greek term Herma, means pile of stones. Is this mere coincidence? Aristarchus of Samos measured the earths circumference and hinted that the sun was at the center of the solar system. The present writer speculates that Aristarchus was interpreing earlier data rather than discovering anything. Solar preminence was well known in Greek and Roman culture as represented by the Sol Invictus cult as well as the inner teachings of Mithras, the leoncephalic god who wore a crown of stars, the multifaceted deity common to all Roman military groups. Certainly, a belief in heliocentricity, if broadcast throughout the Roman Empire by its military cohorts, might have emerged from a very old teaching, even then...and may have survived in secret societies up to and including Bruno, Galileo and Copernicus. Demonstrations: The present paper is the summation of an entire book and takes the form of an abstract, but a few of the Megalithic proofs can be presented here. 2

3 Newgrange In Ireland the Neolithic Mound known as Newgrange (Circa 3400 BC) is set up to admit three beams of light at Winter Solstice. This mound predates Stonehenge by 2000 years and predates the Pyramids in Egypt, by at least 1000 years. The mound is also carved with a language, which can only be interpreted as astral DIAGRAM A The light beams at Newgrange are not the only dials found in Ireland. Nearby mounds, Dowth and Knowth also demonstrate beams of a calendric nature and, considered in sum, all three of the mounds represent a tripartite religion of a kind similar to Hermitism. 3

4 At Newgrange, the most accessible of the three mounds, the light beams concatenate inside the mound, in a chamber were they are commemorated by a triple spiral carved into the main support or Atlas stone. This was the first stone to be planted so we also have an idea how the mound was built. In essence this structure is a temple dedicated to the sun and moon, to the interplay of light from those two objects and to the worship of various phenomenon observable when the light beams enter the chamber. Prior to the present authors research, and persistently since the beam was first discovered in 1969, the beam phenomenon at Newgrange has been thought of as a single beam, but in fact the beam is made of three light components. There are also several shadow components augmenting the beam which lead to interpretations that what we have here is the earliest known monument to Hermetic belief, a monument built thousands of years before Athenian and Roman culture. The Newgrange setup is very complex. First the beam does not begin at dawn or daylight, but rather emerges from a hill bank across the River Boyne about 1 hour after dawn, so that the first powerful thrust of the beam comes from a flat plane on a false horizon about 300 feet above the opening of the mound itself. This assures that the beam will always hit its mark regardless of the earths position in any given year or era. This also implies that whoever built the mound was aware of the precession of the Equinoxes and the solar centric system prior to construction and that the builders were planning something permanent and long lasting. At Dawn on Midwinter Solstice the sunlight comes from the extreme southeast over the ridge and then shines at its brightest unmolested by clouds as it comes in on a downward angle. This set up assures that the beam will occur even on overcast days, although the event is at its most powerful when the sky is clear. To make sure the beam gets into the mound each year, a roof box was constructed, and a set of markings designating eight days has been carved into the stone above the roof box. The light is diffuse at this point and must now go through several collimation stages. Just like a modern laser, the beam gains power and coherence each time it is filtered or collimated. The opening at Newgrange is represented by a fully carved main stone which commemorates the beams passage and more or less reveals how the beam operates as it crosses over and through the mound. The beam s complexity begins at this point because the sun first strikes a heel stone which is triangular in nature and this stone casts a pointing shadow at the main stone striking it at significant indentations. This is a signal to roll open the main stone used to block the lower part of the passage. 4 The suns light, now entering two portals, is split into an upper horizontal beam and a lower vertical aspect. The two beams strike a marking in the tunnel and begin to "twist" and recombine achieving a new coherency. The shaft also changes direction at this point providing yet another occlusion. The newly shaped beam, then enters the second portion of the passage, and strikes a clockwise rotating spiral on the left indicating that the newly formed beam is dynamic and in motion.

6 Inside th darkened mound, the combined beam can be seen moving up the walls and across the floor in a pattern as illustrated in Figure 1. The role of the triangle stone outside and the triangular shape of the passage now become obvious, the beam is not just a line of light, but is a functioning pointer. Now since the mound beam is seen as moving and is coming from one source only, it must be assumed that the mound on its earthly plane is moving. Thus the builders of this mound knew and demonstrated that the sun dose not move. But this is only one proof of heliocentricity in the Boyne Valley. As the beam crosses the floor it strikes a basin stone carved for the purpose. This stone was obviously full of oil or water or both and has indentations which clearly held two crystals. Once the pointer beam strikes the crystals acting as prisms, at least two bands of color form on the walls. Next the beam continues into the rear chamber where it traces out the triple spiral on the rear of the Atlas stone. Further Discussion: The action of this beam demonstrates an understanding of heliocentricity and the prismic components of light, a proof of the complexity of sunlight more than 5000 years before Newton. These phenomenon have been supressed by many groups, but the events can be repeated and have been observed by hundreds of spectators. The interior dome of the mound, is surrounded by three chambers, the rear chamber, already mentioned, houses the triple spiral. The East chamber, houses a huge water cistern and a massive deeply carved overhead stone which is reflected into the cistern when full of water, rain water has been ducted into the chamber by the time the beam is formed so that anyone standing next to the cistern stone will see the carving on the ceiling reflected into the water in reverse. Here, before the spectator, is the entire Hermetic creation scenario as know to the builders. This reflection pool presents itself as the Hermtic riddle: Heaven above, Earth below everything over, under shall show. 6 A mound in Bretagne, known as Kercado, adjacent to Carnac is even older (circa 4200 BC ) and also possess a Winter Solstice beam, but it is blocked by modern construction. Stonehenge is also a lunar and solar structure oriented to Winter Solstice Sunset.

9 Conclusions: Although not fully proven, it can easily be established that the ancient mounds in several locations of Western Europe are calendar dials based on a heliocentric model of creation. The knowledge seems to have been passed on by various societies and cults such as the Celts, through thier connections with the Roman Mitraists, the Troubadours and Hermetists, until it was finaslly brodcast by Galileo and Copernicus
