The RF stge is tuned with fourfold vrible cpcitor st LO.. z in z steps ( Xtls), first IF 0 z, vrible, permebility tuned nd LO 0.. z in 0kz steps ( 0 Xtls) In totl x 0 x = 0 chnnels second IF 00kz fixed The Xtls of the second LO re used twice: once 00kz below the first IF signl, nd in second turn of the selector t 00kz bove the first IF signl. The result is 00kz signl tht is filtered in ollins mechnicl filter. The trnsfer function on liner scle is shown below. On log scle, the pssbnd ripple is db, the signl is 0dB down outside 0 0 kz. Fig. Trnsfer function of the 00kz mechnicl filter on linlin scle. The G voltge on TP with squelch djusted t uv is..v t 0dBm input nd V t 0dBm input. T output. The receiver hs widebnd output for the VOR signls (0z nd kz) or LO signls ( 0 nd 0z). This output is not squelched nor clipped. Three contcts re vilble tht close to ground on the T chnnels (0. z), one cn be used to slow down the G response, nother to select horizontl (VOR/LO) or verticl (comm.) ntenn Squelch nd udio The squelch tube is controlled by the G voltge. The udio stge hs shrp speech filter with z pssbnd ( see below). The filter peks re t 0, 00 nd 000 z. The pek t 0z ws due to mins hum in my test setup. The only difference is the power supply module ll filments re in prllel in the version, but in the version they re connected series/prllel. ohm dropper resistor is mounted in the min chssis to reduce the.v to x. =.V. The supply hs despiker to block spikes up to 0V on the input, nd W inverter to provide 0V/m. 5 R (ollins L) Trnsmitter tuning echnicl Tuning Unit The mechnicl tuning system is the bckbone of the RF module of the L. It consists of Vdc motor, two electromechnicl es nd to trnsfer motion to the crystl selector shfts of the high frequency oscilltor (FO) nd the low Frequency oscilltor (LFO). The FO crystls re in z steps, the 0 LFO crystls hve 0 kz steps. The LFO nd FO signls re mixed, nd multistge tuned filter selects the crrier signl from the result. The vrible cpcitor (vrco) shft of this filter is driven from mix of the FO nd LFO shfts z Lo Bnd Filter freq. i Bnd FO Xtl freq Position tuning dil (degrees) one full turn of the vrco. icroswitch S is on the vrco shft nd forces the motor to skip the unused hlf turn. icroswitch S is on shft with twice the speed, nd used to select LoBnd or ibnd. In ibnd, the lst two positions ( nd z) re skipped. In Lo Bnd, the LFO frequency is decresing with incresing trnsmit frequency, while in i Bnd, the LFO frequency is incresing with incresing trnsmit frequency. Rely ner the LFO crystls reverses the sequence in the Lobnd cse. The crystls of the FO re used twice: once bove the frequency (Lo bnd), nd once below the frequency (i Bnd). Over the whole Lo + i bnd, the vrco of the tuned filters mkes only hlf turn. So, the FO crystl selector mkes turns for 00Ω The rely connects TU pins vi the rer plug to the control pnel, depending on the SS / S mode. When P is left open, norml mode is selected ( sme frequency for receive nd trnsmit). When P is connected to ground (ul chnnel mode) then the trnsmit frequency is z bove the receive frequency for the first columns in the tble below, or z lower in cse of the lst columns. The control pnel llows 0 (Rx) only for, so ll trnsmit z bove the receive frequency. The coding of the z switch S is s follows. X mens no connection (tht output is open.) Exmple: in norml mode, with line connected to ground in the control pnel, the motor stops when both TU pins nd re open, i.e. t,, nd etc z. m c S Lo i & skip dil S input: 0 /// X X X X X X 0/// X X X X X X //0/ X X X X X /// X X X X X /// X X X X X /// X X X X 0/// X X X X X //0/ X X X X X X /// X X X X X X 0 0 Ω S SB ( x ) x 0 = 0 chnnels z steps 0. z steps S 0 0 TU Pins used in norml mode X X X X & B X X X X X X X 0 X X X X & 0 Rer connector Pin of P Pin on P Rer side connector +V relys 0 > z 0 / + z z steps 00kz steps 0 / 0kz S Ω S Norml ul hnn & & 0 & 0 & Tble rely llowed m c TU Pins used in ul chnn mode X X X X & B X X X X X X X & Pin on P Rer side connector X X X X 0 Exmple: ontrol set t z dul chnnel > receive, Trnsmit t 0 z
