10 3-1 Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities Before we begin you need to recall how to solve linear inequalities. On your whiteboard solve each inequality. Ø y + 7 < -11 Ø 4m -12 Ø 5 2x 17

11 x > 3 OR x < -2 This cannot be written 3-1 Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities Sometimes a solution will include two sets of solutions such as: -2 < x or/and x < 3 Compound Inequality o Two inequalities are connected by and or or. o And if the two sets are connected (overlap). o Or if the two sets are disconnected. -2 < x AND x < 3 If I graphed this on a number line I would [ind that they overlap, hence, we can rewrite it as -2 < x < 3
