3 M a r c h Page 3 P a s t o r s M e s s a g e Our Bishop Patricia Lull reminded me of the surprising insights of Frederick Buechner: Coincidence I think of a person I haven't seen or thought of for years, and ten minutes later I see her crossing the street. I turn on the radio to hear a voice reading the biblical story of Jael, which is the story that I have spent the morning writing about. A car passes me on the road, and its license plate consists of my wife's and my initials side by side. When you tell people stories like that, their usual reaction is to laugh. One wonders why. I believe that people laugh at coincidence as a way of relegating it to the realm of the absurd and of therefore not having to take seriously the possibility that there is a lot more going on in our lives than we either know or care to know. Who can say what it is that's going on? But I suspect that part of it, anyway, is that every once and so often we hear a whisper from the wings that goes something like this: "You've turned up in the right place at the right time. You're doing fine. 9 M a r c h Page 9 To o l K i t f o r C o n g r e g a t i o n a l L e a d e r s Saturday, March 10, :30am to 2pm Augustana Lutheran (1400 South Robert St., West St. Paul) The annual Tool Kit for Congregational leaders will be held on the morning of Saturday, March 10 at Augustana Lutheran in West St. Paul. The day will feature workshops for lay leaders in Saint Paul Area Synod churches. Workshops are especially geared for congregational leaders and staff such as council members, those working in Christian education, children, youth and family, and business management. Workshops are also geared for those who are involved in hospitality, stewardship, and outreach ministries. Everyone in faith leadership is welcome. P a l m S u n d a y We look forward to being joined by the Swahili Choir from Trinity Lutheran on Palm Sunday, March 25th. Join for a memorable worship service of Palms, singing, celebration and reflection. Free Bike Repair/Affordable Used Bikes Community Bike Day Saturaday March 24, 11am 2pm Zion Lutheran 1697 Lafond Avenue, St. Paul Come to Zion Lutheran where bike mechanics from Mr. Michael Recycles Bicycles will be on hand to repair bikes of anyone in need. There will also be an array of used bikes (under $100) for sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to Zion s efforts to provide food to those in need in our neighborhood. Persons without money may sign up on a waitlist for a free bicycle.
