11 Requirement of users: With in vacuum undulators it should be possible to reach the k- edge of selenium (around 13 kev). The energy has to be increased to 2.5 GeV. Requirement of the EU-panel: The energy should be increased to 2.5 GeV. Conditions for the optimization process: 1.) The space of the building is fixed (60m times 60 m). 2.) The length of the beam lines must be around 30 m. This is only possible with the pole face winding technology in order to get rid off some magnet elements. 2 nd Council Meeting 10 th 11 th July 2003

33 Summary: The CDR for III is finished. It was approved by the MAC and the Council. By increasing the circumference of the machine and with an eccentric location, the flexibility of the machine can be improved ( IV) In an upgrading process small cross sections can be reached with the introduction of another quadrupole family ( V) In an upgrading process a full energy injector can be installed The erection of the building has started At present no money is available for the erection of the machine ( some negotiations take place with the EU) At present no money is available for the erection of the beam lines is going ahead: The 2 nd user meeting will be in Isfahan, Iran and the 3 rd council meeting will be in Marrakech, Morocco 2 nd Council Meeting 10 th 11 th July 2003
