5 Preface The grooving number of publications on ferroelectrics with their increasing amount of valuable data requires the publication of a complete new compilation This new volume III/l6, the first subvolume of which is presented herewith, contains revised updated and extended information on ferroclectric, antiferroelectric and closely related substances The compilation is as complete as possible and as detailed as reasonable All reliable data on both pure compounds and solid solutions published between 1921 and 1979 arc critically evaluated and included As well as the dielectric and ferroelectric bchaviour all other propcrtics relevant to the characterization of these crystals are presented in tables and figures The arrangcmcnt and scope of information is the same as in the previous volumes III/3 and III 9 These will still be useful to follow the lines of historical development, and as sources of additional data All values in this volume are given in SI units A table of conversion factors between the traditional and the SI units is added to the introduction For technical reasons the new volume has been divided as follows: subvolume 111/16a, presented hercnith, covers the oxides, and subvolumc III/16b, due in 1981, will deal with the non-oxides, ie the remaining inorganic substances, the organic crystals, some liquid crystals polymers, and crystals of uncertain ferroelectric behaviour We wish to thank all authors for their quick, thorough and competent work, the Landolt-Blirnstein office, especially Dr W Polzin and Frau B Ade, for their reliable checking of manuscripts and galleys, and Springer-Verlag for their understanding help in the final preparation This subvolumc as all volumes of Landolt-Biirnstein, has been published without any support from other sources Darmstadt October 1980 The Editors
