Two basic types are cataloged: the HEG series of point sources and the HEGL series of line sources. All source capsules are made of doubly encapsulated, welded 304 stainless steel. All sources have been assigned a classification number in accordance with ANSI N and meet minimum standards for their application. Most capsules meet D.O.T. Special Form requirements. The active elements of the HEG point sources are ceramic unless otherwise indicated. Contained activity is normally held to within ±15% of the stated value unless quoted on a different basis. NIST traceability and output calibrations are available on request. The HEGL line sources may contain one of several forms of active material including ceramic, resin, or carbon substrates. All line sources are produced on a custom basis. Requests for quotations should include contained activity required, active and overall length, diameter limitations and uniformity requirements. Typical activities range up to 10 mci per cm and lengths to 80 cm. Uniformity is normally held to within ±15%, however, sources for medical application are prepared to a much tighter tolerance. Call customer service for information on specific models. Most sources are shipped in non-returnable D.O.T. 7A Type A containers. Certain products labeled with an asterisk require a wooden shipping container and lead insert. This container becomes the customer s property, and is suitable in most cases for permanent storage. There is an additional charge for this container CAPSULE 3023 CAPSULE 3024 CAPSULE 3015 CAPSULE 3011 CAPSULE 3809 CAPSULE 3814 CAPSULE 3833 CAPSULE FIGURE 56-A HIGH INTENSITY GAMMA RAY SOURCES (HEG SERIES)

The Micropoint beta source s active element is only 0.118" (3 mm) in d i a m e t e r " (22 mm) 0.837" (21.3 mm) MOUNTING HOLES COPPER PINCH-OFF The beta sources described below cover the energy range from 18 to 2282 kev, and are intended primarily for industrial gauging and for instrument calibration under field conditions. Except for the Kr-85 gas filled sources, the active element is a monolithic construction with the radionuclide incorporated into a ceramic pellet, a metallic foil or polymeric matrix. The element is further encapsulated to give a high integrity source in which the activity will not shift under the most extreme conditions likely to be encountered in field operation. The nuclides available in the 3200 series capsule have been tested in accordance with ANSI The Series 3200 capsules can also be furnished in an A-2F flanged mount. Some of the applications for these sources are: transmission gauging of thin sheet stock backscatter gauging of thin coatings aircraft ice detectors internal standards in portable survey instruments and control instrumentation high intensity point and line sources for calibration of beta spectrometers static elimination and other ionizing a p p l i c a t i o n s dust monitoring instruments hot particle studies. GFS Series Configurations Two basic point source styles are utilized: The GFS series is an all stainless steel configuration and is normally used for energies from kev. The XFB series capsule which is fitted with a high temperature brazed beryllium window and is employed for emissions below 50 kev. Both series have been expanded and assigned new 3000 series numbers to accommodate a large combination of window and backing materials which optimize emission characteristics. Most source configurations have been tested and assigned ANSI classifications. Some sources are classified as D.O.T. Special Form. The annular geometry provides the most efficient method of fluorescing the sample, and compensating for irregularities in sample positions and uniformity. Each model has been designed to give optimum performance as well as freedom from secondary radiations arising from materials of construction. This is accomplished by using selected shielding and filter materials built into the assembly. All assembly designs have been tested in accordance with ANSI N and have been assigned classification C A m e r i c i u m-241 sources are also registered as D.O.T. Special Form as defined in 49CFR This allows shipment in simple, non-returnable cardboard containers, a distinct advantage when the source is part of a more complex system. Contained activity for all XRF sources is supplied as a nominal value ±15%. Two basic types of assemblies are available: AN Reloads (AN-REL) New sources will be loaded into customersupplied source assemblies and the depleted sources will be accepted for disposal. To reduce customer downtime, Isotope Products will request delivery of the depleted source assembly when the replacement sources have been manufactured. In the case of Am-241/Cd-109 Composite Sources the reload service includes a soak test of the existing Am-241 source. 2 50" (63.5 mm) COVER PREFFERED P R E F F E R E D N U C L I D E ELEMENT RANGES ELEMENT RANGES K - L I N E S L - L I N E S C d C h r o m i u m - M o l y b d e n u m T e r b i u m - U r a n i u m C o - 57 T i t a n i u m - S e l e n i u m, L a n t h a n u m - L e a d H o l m i u m - U r a n i u m A m Z i n c - N e o d y m i u m H a f n i u m - U r a n i u m F e S i l i c o n - V a n a d i u m N i o b i u m - C e r i u m C m T i t a n i u m - S e l e n i u m L a n t h a n u m - L e a d G d I r o n - T e l l u r i u m S a m a r i u m - L e a d E r b i u m - L e a d E u I r o n - T e l l u r i u m C e r i u m - L e a d S a m a r i u m - L e a d LEAD INSERT RETAINING RING Series AN provides for direct irradiation of the sample.
