1 (Littles) Lesson Plans (Advanced and Regular Physical Science) UNIT 11: Newton s Laws of Motion (10 days) UNIT 12: Forces and Fluids (8 days) Date Range: 11/17/14-11/21/14 Topic, Assignments, Agenda, Board Configurations Standard/ Homeroom: Announcements UNIT: Newton s Laws 1. How did Newton change our view of the universe? 2. How can you prove that Newton s Laws of Motion are true? 3. What would our world be like without force? 4. What is the relationship between fluid pressure and buoyant force? 5. How can you predict whether an object will sink or float in a liquid? 6. What role does density play in an object s ability to float? 7. How can the overall density of an object be changed? 8. Why is knowledge of fluids essential for efficient travel by ground, sea, and air? #: Investigate and describe types of forces including contact forces and forces acting at a distance, such as electrical, magnetic, and gravitational. SC.6.P.13.2#: Explore the law of gravity by recognizing that every object exerts gravitational force on every other object and that the force depends on how much mass the objects have and how far apart they are. SC.8.P.8.2#: Differentiate between weight and mass recognizing that weight is the amount of gravitational pull on an object and is distinct from, though proportional to, mass. 1. Students will be able to apply Newton s Laws of Motion in various situations. 2. Students will be able to explain how forces in fluids (buoyancy, density, pressure) affect objects. Objectives: Students should be able to:

2 1. 2. Differentiate between the types of forces. 3. The factors that can affect a gravitational force of an object. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of how forces in fluids affect objects. Students will be able to explain how forces in fluids (buoyancy, density, pressure) affect objects. Demonstrate knowledge of how forces in fluids affect objects.
