The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the graveside in Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. The Rev. Volus McEachern of Grace Presbytrian Church of Milton-Freewater will officiate. Mrs. Smiley was born Aug. 27, 1888, in the Fruitvale area of Milton-Freewater, the daughter of Jacob and Ella Hodgen, early pioneers of the area. She attended the Hodgen School which later became the Fruitvale School. She was married to Charlie Smiley in Milton-Freewater, Dec 23, The pair farmed and moved to the Umapine ranch in Smiley died June 22, Mrs. Smiley has been in ill health the past year. 2 She was a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, the Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church and the Umapine Home Extension Club. She is suvived by her son, George Smiley and her daughter, Cornelia Tellefson, both of Milton- Freewater; her sisters, Flossie Dickerson and Josephine Weathermon, both of Walla Walla; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. OSCAR GEORGE Mrs. Oscar George, age 68, former resident of the Antioch community, and now residing at the west edge of Lebanon, died at the Witham hospital in Lebanon yesterday at 2:30 p.m. from complications, having been ill since October. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Knight Russell, and a member of the Christian Church in Mechanicsburg. Surviving are the husband, Oscar T. George, 2 sons, Mark, of Kirksville, Missouri, and Paul of Frankfort, 2 daughters, Mrs. Mary Campbell, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Ruth Wilson of Attica, 1 sister, 2 brothers, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church with Rev. Ora McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Buntin cemetery." Hodgen was born in Umapine, Ore. Sept. 25, 1892 and had been a resident of Umapine and Milton-Freewater area most of his life, moving to Pendleton 15 years ago. He married the former Nellie Marie Huntley in 1923 and she died in Hodgen had worked on ranches and did concrete work in the area for a number of years. She had been in poor health for some time. June 27, 1906 she married Van Atkinson, oldest son of the late N.B. Atkinson. They farmed in the Waitsburg and Prescott areas many years and later moved to Klamath Falls, OR. She was the former Florence Cunningham. The family moved to Prosser about 10 years ago. She is survived by her husband; four sons, Ivan and Forrest, San Francisco, Jack, Los Angeles and William, Klamath Falls. A fifth son, Horace, died last October. Funeral Services will be held at a Prosser funeral home Thursday at 11 AM. Interment will be in the Waitsburg city cemetery with brief graveside services at 2;30 PM conducted by the Rev.
