2 Kearl oil sands mining operation Imperial Oil is the majority owner and operator of the Kearl Oil Sands mine in NE Alberta. Bitumen production started in 2013 and the mine is approved to produce up to 345,000 barrels of bitumen per day with a life of mine of over 35 years. Kearl is a fly-in, fly-out operation and offers opportunities for geoscientists to work both at site and at Imperial s headquarters in Calgary. Kearl Geoscience is responsible for the timely and accurate characterization of the subsurface, creating a predictive framework that forms the basis for all dewatering and earthworks activity. This includes characterization of the near-surface Quaternary sediments (an important source of sand and gravel that are essential to mine operations), the bitumen-bearing fluvial deposits of the McMurray Formation (the ore body), and the Devonian carbonates and evaporites that form the bedrock of the mine. Kearl Geoscientists are expected to develop the skills required to integrate data from multiple sources (coreholes, geophysics, block models and mine face observations) and to effectively collaborate with engineers and hydrogeologists to maintain a safe and efficient mining operation. Kearl offers an industry-leading opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to be part of a successful team operating in the Athabasca Oil Sands. Imperial has submitted regulatory applications for future developments at the Aspen and Cold Lake Expansion projects using innovative solvent-assisted steam-assisted gravity drainage. 3 Horn River unconventional shale gas The Horn River Basin, a significant shale gas play, is located in northeast British Columbia. Significant advances in horizontal drilling and fracturing technology have made development of this resource possible while development is currently slowed due to low gas prices. Geoscientists work with state of the art 3D seismic, micro-seismic, well log and core data to continue to evaluate and improve reservoir performance. Geoscientists working with the Cold Lake asset are involved in all aspects of geoscience including 2D, 3D and 4D seismic acquisition, processing, interpretation and inversion, as well as Development and Production well planning, well log and core analysis, mapping, geologic modeling and daily drilling operations.

4 Beaufort Sea exploration Imperial has a significant interest in about one million exploration acres in the Beaufort Sea.
