1 DANIELLA NADINE DELLAGIUSTINA 2931 E. Mabel St. Tucson, AZ (520) PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Lead Image Processing Scientist July 2015 Present Associate Image Processing Scientist February 2014 July 2015 Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona Tucson, Arizona OSIRIS-REx Co-Investigator leading the development of mission critical photogrammetry and imagery analysis products created from OSIRIS-REx Camera Suite images. Overseeing the systems engineering, observation planning, software development, and scientific analysis for the OSIRIS-REx image processing working group, a team of scientists and engineers that is responsible for delivering image mosaics, multispectral imagery, digital terrain models, videos, and thematic maps to NASA's OSIRIS-REx Mission during encounter with asteroid Bennu. Providing technical and contractual oversight for collaborative work with other NASA Missions, the United States Geological Survey, and other academic and commercial institutions. Co-Investigator and Project Scientist for the Seismometer to Investigate Ice and Ocean Structure (SIIOS), an instrument maturation and analog mission project that involves evaluating the utility of a novel optical seismometer for inclusion on a landed Ocean Worlds mission. Leading the development of science and operational requirements and coordinating fieldwork for deployment of the SIIOS instrument in planetary analog environments in the Arctic. Co-Investigator for the Cold Lightweight Imagers for Europa (C-LIFE) instrument maturation project. Assistant Research Scientist August 2012 January 2014 Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy (AzRISE) Department of Physics, University of Arizona Tucson, AZ Science operations and project management support for an extensive network of scientific sensors continuously monitoring meteorological and photovoltaic (PV) system conditions at field sites across Southern Arizona. Developed network- and cloud-based solutions for automated data logging from remotely deployed sensors. Administered servers, relational databases, and web applications for automated data visualization and distribution. Performed data quality assurance analysis using tools like R, JMP, MATLAB, and SQL with several datasets, including time series and discreet PV measurements, cloud imagery, GIS, and meteorological information. Prepared technical reports, proposals, and successfully negotiated R&D contracts with commercial entities, including utility companies and PV manufacturers. Scientific Consultant, Partner December 2011 August 2013 Northern Embedded Solutions Evaluated burgeoning technologies such as Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing systems, applications of nanotechnology, and medical advances to help clients assess the potential and marketability of new technologies. Advised nationally on STEM education projects including the development of a scientific library, college-level solar energy curriculum, and the DANTES Subject Standardized Test physics exam. Spearheaded the proposal process for R&D contracts and performed necessary project management. Research Assistant, Scientific Programmer September 2009 December 2011 The Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks Fairbanks, AK Physically characterized ice-sheets and glaciers using a variety of remotely sensed geographic data, including digital elevation and terrain models derived from Landsat imagery, airborne lidar, and ice penetrating radar. Independently developed and tested novel numerical algorithms to interpret ice-sheet flow features from remotely sensed data using MATLAB and Python. Co-developed, tested, and documented regional-scale modeling capabilities in the internationally recognized C++ Parallel Ice Sheet Model, which solves thermo-mechanically coupled equations of non-linear fluid flow. Coordinated logistics for and performed fieldwork in the remote polar environments of Greenland and Alaska. 1
2 Research Assistant May 2005 June 2009 Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona Tucson, Arizona Prepared meteorite samples for compositional analysis using acid-dissolution wet chemistry in a Class 100 cleanroom. Operated an ICP-MS, electron microprobe, and optical microscope and performed subsequent data analysis and image processing to determine the bulk chemistry and petrology of meteorites. Performed telescopic observations of asteroids to determine the orbital and spectral properties of these objects. Designed student instrument for the Phase A NASA Discovery Mission OSIRIS, which characterized cosmic radiation using lithium fluoride crystals and techniques to determine radiation flux by counting artifacts on imaging-system detectors. Wrote section of OSIRIS Concept Study Report and presented results to NASA selection committee. Research Intern June 2008 August 2008 Institute for Study of Earth s Interior, Okayama University Misasa, Japan Prepared mineral and glass samples by dry chemical mixing and quenching techniques and evaluated sample quality using an electron microprobe. Machined multi-anvil press sample cells using a mill and lathe. Operated a Multi Anvil 1000 Ton Press to experimentally produce high-pressure forming minerals while simultaneously measuring mineral properties. TEACHING EXPERIENCE Adjunct Geology & Physics Instructor Pima Community College August 2012 Present Tucson, AZ Instructor for undergraduate physical geology, algebra-based introductory physics, calculus-based mechanics, and electricity & magnetism laboratory courses. Co-Instructor & Field Guide July 2011 University of Alaska Fairbanks Fairbanks, AK Instructor and guide for undergraduate Field Methods in Glaciology geology course at Gulkana Glacier, Alaska. Adjunct Mathematics Instructor August 2010 December 2010 Cochise College (Santa Cruz Campus) Nogales, AZ Instructor for undergraduate college algebra and pre-algebra courses. EDUCATION Master of Science Computational Physics The University of Alaska Fairbanks Concentration in Ice Geophysics Bachelor of Science Physics The University of Arizona, Tucson Minor in Planetary Sciences SERVICE & EXTRACURRICULARS Steering Committee Member (2014-Present) NASA s Mapping and Planetary Spatial Infrastructure Team (MAPSIT) Analysis Group MAPSIT was established by NASA and the planetary science community in the fall of 2014, following recommendations from the Planetary Science Subcommittee of the Science Committee, NASA Advisory council. Originally named the Cartography Research Assessment Group (CRAG), the MAPSIT name was adopted in the fall of 2015 to be more inclusive of all aspects of spatial data analysis and associated infrastructure. The team consists of all interested members of our community and has a Steering Committee, which actively solicits input from the scientific community and reports its findings to NASA as requested. 2
