1 James Tuttle Keane Curriculum Vitae Address: Lunar and Planetary Laboratory & Department of Planetary Sciences The University of Arizona 1629 East University Boulevard, Tucson, AZ, EDUCATION 2016 (expected) Ph. D. Planetary Science University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA 2011 B. Sc. Astronomy, with High Honors University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA 2011 B. Sc. Geology, with Honors University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA RESEARCH INTERESTS I am interested in the formation and evolution of solar system planets, planetary satellites, and small bodies, with an emphasis on rotational and orbital dynamics and how these processes interact with geologic processes, and vice versa. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 2012 present Graduate Research Associate Advisor: Isamu Matsuyama (University of Arizona) Using NASA Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) data to isolate the contribution of the lunar impact basins, flood basalt, and mantle convection to the lunar gravity field, in order to better constrain the orbital and rotational evolution of the Moon. Developing original theoretical treatments for investigating the effects of planetary flybys on near-earth asteroids, and whether flybys can resurface asteroids Graduate Research Associate Advisor: Ilaria Pascucci (University of Arizona) Analyzed and reduced a large Herschel Space Observatory PACS survey of transitional disks a subset of protoplanetary disks caught in the act of dispersal. Compared the results to theoretical disk models in order to better constrain the formation mechanism of these unusual disks. Planned and acquired high resolution spectroscopy of a set of protoplanetary disks, using the Magellan (Clay, 6.5-m) Telescope, as part of a large survey to better understand protoplanetary disk processes, including photoevaporation Undergraduate Honors Thesis Advisor: Laurent G. J. Montési (University of Maryland) Constructed original numerical models of lithospheric extension in order to model modes of rifting on the Earth, Europa, Ganymede, and Enceladus Undergraduate Honors Thesis Advisor: Douglas P. Hamilton (University of Maryland) Used N-body numerical modeling to investigate different modes of planetary migration in the early solar system National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates James Tuttle Keane Curriculum Vitae p.1/5
2 Advisor: Gordon Petrie (National Solar Observatory) Developed computer routines to analyze archival solar magnetogram data, in order to look for patterns in the magnetic fields of the solar photosphere and chromosphere College Park Scholars Research Project Advisor: Stephen White (University of Maryland) Observed galactic neutral hydrogen at 21-cm using the National Radio Astronomy Observatory 40-ft educational telescope to reconstruct galactic rotation models.
