Deliverables Deliverables Achieved No. promised at start If not achieved, reasons thereof 1 Monitoring of Updated seismicity maps for Peninsular - seismically active shield, NE India, Bhuj region and NW faults Himalaya 2 Causative for ground Sedimentary thickness estimated through - motion amplification seismology and Magneto tellurics is in central Ganga underway plains 3 Assess the paleoseismic history of Kopili region (NE India) 4 Intensity of ground shaking in central Ganga plains and Bhuj region, Gujarat 5 Tsunami modelling and Inundation studies along east and west coast of India 6 Continuous operation of Permanent GPS tracking station Outreach program 7 for school children on earthquake safety Identified five new paleoseismic events around Kopi li fault zone, Assam going back to 2600 yr BP Peak ground acceleration maps and a new ground motion attenuation relationship for of the Kutch, Gujarat region and PGA map for central Ganga plains from seismological observations Tsunami Hazard assessment studies for Nuclear Power Plants and Kalpasar dam have been completed by providing inundation extent in the event of Tsunamigenic earthquakes The Antarctic plate is largely aseismic and there is no significant internal deformation and therefore not many earthquakes Created Awareness among school children of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, in Uttar Pradesh, a few in Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand on earth, earth quakes and essentials of safety. Also, an awareness campaign on earthquake safety has been carried out in NE India, Sikkim, Doda, Kishtawar, Srinagar, 2
3 Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, south western part of Maharashtra and Telangana 5. Outcomes and outputs from the projects: a. Outcomes 1. Lead(s) identified: Number and names with TRL Macro risk map of the central part of Ganga plains and detailed risk map for Lucknow and Dehradun cities Seismicity maps of active faults located in NE and NW India, Southern Peninsular India and Kutch region of Gujarat Estimation of seismo-chronology in NE India (Looking into the occurrence of Large earthquakes in Assam Valley) and active fault mapping in Dehradun area 2. Technology/Product developed: Number and names with TRL level of Development : The project does not fall under TRL mode 3. Technology/Product transferred: Number and names with name of licensee(s) NA 4. Facility created: Number and names with uniqueness & utility Operation of more than 150 broad band seismological stations at various locations in India. Out of the 150 broad band seismological stations 28 of these are strong motion velocity meters and CSIR-NGRI is the only organization in the country which operates these seismometers. Further, the continuous operations of the 150 seismological stations shall improve the earthquake catalogues especially in the intra plate region hitherto, which have few earthquakes and devoid of smaller magnitude earthquakes Operation of GPS and seismological station at Maitri, Antarctica has resulted in gathering of valuable geodetic and seismological data especially at the Maitri station of India Installation of variometer magnetometer observatory at Choutuppal 5. Sponsored projects obtained (with details): Effect of Ground motions on Ramappa Temple due to blasts, Warangal District., Department of Irrigation, Andhra Pradesh, Rs. 15 Lakhs, 2012 Uniting and networking the magnetic community in the northern Indian Ocean region- MAGNIO sponsored by ICSU, USD, Study of Tsunami Waves Impact on Structures and Tsunami Inundation Modeling for the Kalpasar Project, Gujarat, Government of Gujarat, Rs. 16 Lakhs, Characterisation of Seismic sources irn the Peninsular shield, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Rs. 15 Lakhs,
