Cornstock of Juneau, Alaska. iiisto rj & Development : This large quartz vein was discovered and staked in 1905 by?tick Lacianoff and Jilil Gleghorn. It was knom as the Bar group and referred to at that time as ijld ':iomants By property. The shaft, shorn on?late No. 2, nas sunk in 1906 and 1907 to its -present depth of 22 feet. The shaft was sunk vertical with windlass and hand mej~lzods in the center of the vein on the massive sulphide shosing at an elevation of 765'. The sulphide shoxing has a ividth of 30 inches on the surface, and it was reported to have l:!idened to over 4 feet at the bottom. This shaft mas partly filled with water and inacessible on date 04' visit. %me time later a tunnel =as started on the vein 460' south of the shaft at an elevation of 590'. This tunnel is to date 51 feet in length along the foot~lall of the vein and has a 6' crosscut into the hanging wall at the end. In 1924 this ve in was staked by Geo. Corns tock for the above 07:mers and it via3 called the SuzirlCie gyoup xlaieh name it still retains. Since the restaking only stri2ping and rack cut work has been done. ~ne mall shed 7' by 7' at the mouth of tunnel is tne only structure. A trail has been built from the shaft to tidewater on Gld.;/oman's hy. Tnis ~ o u nas? restaked by 'd. J. Zrskine two years ago, but no further ~ork has been done. General Geology and G,uartz Showings: A large banded quartz vein, which strikes N and dips 80.;I., has an exposed length of 500', sverages from 14' to 17 ' in uidth, and is traceable for This vein is 7t~holly inclosed in banded granite gneiss, and the strike and di? of the vein conforms to the banded foliation structure of the gneiss, It mas reported this vein is traceable over 3,0001 and lies wholly with this Formation.

2 %ginning 100' south of the shaft, Plate KO. 2, in the center of this vein is a lense of nearly.mssive mlphides. This lellse is exposed over 200' and runs in width from nothing on the ends to 3' 'aidest on the surface, The quartz vein is banded with the bands varjing from 8" to lgft in.gidth, The quartz is glassy in places to a mil!^^ white in others. Some of the bands show considerable evic'ence of strain. Fiineralization is very slight in the quartz and occurs mainly along the seams of the Sands. 'kis vein outcrops a fe:; feet at the tunnel location and here as in the tunnel it contains considerable mall rock and a very slight mineralization.... ineral ization : 'The nineralization in the quartz, vhich is very sparse, is mainly pyrite?/ith a little arsenopyrite. The sulphide lenses are made up of pyrite, st ibnite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite and a little copper and nickel stain on surface.,the gangue minerals are quartz, alteration products of rvall rock fragileats xith hisi'ole sericite and nluscovite. Near the massive sulphides the quartz is a bluish nature and on the surface some oxddization is present.
