3 CCOP EPPM Programme: Workshop on UNFC Resource Classification (for Oil, Gas and Minerals), organized in cooperation with UNECE and UNESCAP 9-10 February 2012, Bangkok, Thailand A. Objectives: 1. To review the current state-of-the-art in petroleum and mineral resource classification and to present the only global classification system, United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources (UNFC) 2009, for both petroleum and minerals. 2. To explain and discuss the potential for the UNFC to provide a global communication tool that can be applied easily. B. Participants and resource persons: 1. Experts and management level representatives from government organizations working on resource classification in oil and from the CCOP Member Countries, and ASCOPE Members will be invited. Experts from the mineral sector as well as representatives from financial, academic and research institutions who are knowledgeable on the topic will also be invited. 2. 7 Resource Persons Short Bio-data (alphabetically) Per Blystad is a Senior Geologist working with the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) since Starting in exploration he later in 1991 became project coordinator responsible for NPD s international projects in cooperation with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) until From 1997 to 1999 he worked in CCOP as project coordinator for the Resource Evaluation and Planning, Phase II project (REP II). In 1999 he joined the NPD Resource Analysis Team with focus upon resource classification, reporting, resource assessments and resource analyses. In 2001 he joined the United Nations Ad Hoc Group of Experts for Harmonization of Reserves/Resources Classification and served as coordinator for the Petroleum Group of the Ad Hoc Group. He is currently member of the Expert Group on Resource Classification (EGRC). He is Norway s representative to CCOP. Charlotte GRIFFITHS, Leader, Fossil Fuels, Sustainable Energy Division, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Over 20 years experience in the energy sector, over 9 of which were spent working for the World Coal Association, an industry association for the coal sector undertook different roles at WCA, including Senior Manager. In 2001, joined the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) based in Geneva, Switzerland. Has held various positions in the Sustainable Energy Division of UNECE working with member States on energy policies and the transition to sustainable patterns of energy development. Previous roles include Secretary of the Committee on Sustainable Energy the principal intergovernmental body within UNECE responsible for promoting international cooperation in the field of energy and the Groups of Experts on Coal, Coal Mine Methane and Electric Power. Currently Leader of the Fossil Fuels Team, with key responsibility for UNECE s work on resource classification. 6

8 Dr. Ian Lambert is a senior executive in the Australian Government, where he works in Geoscience Australia the national geosciences and geospatial information agency. After receiving his PhD from Australian National University, Dr. Lambert conducted post-doctoral research in experimental petrology and University of Chicago. He spent 20 years with CSIRO, conducting research deposits and stable isotopes, during which he received several international awards. After a few years as an independent consultant he joined the Government. He is a member of Australia s National Committee for Earth Sciences and the Australian Geoscience Council. He has represented Australia internationally for many years, most notably as Vice Chair of the international Uranium Group and the UN Experts Group on Resource Classification. Dr. Lambert is currently focused on his role as Secretary General of the 34 th International Geological Congress, which will be held in Brisbane in August He is a Senior Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists and a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Geological Societies of Australia and America. Satinder Purewal, SPE, is Chief Operating Officer of EER (AS) Limited and a visiting Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College. He has 30 years global experience in Reservoir Engineering. During the last few years, he was responsible for Proved Reserves Assurance for Shell's European Region, Global Proved Reserves Training and delivery of several reservoir engineering courses worldwide. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Fellow of the Energy Institute, member of SPEE and a Chartered Engineer. He was a member of SPE OGRC for several years and is a past chairman of London Section and Distinguished Lecture Committee. During he chaired the Applications Document Subcommittee leading the effort to ensure publication of the 'Guidelines for Application of the Petroleum Resources Management System' (PRMS) on November 1, Satinder holds BSc (Hons), MSc and PhD degrees from Imperial College (including ARCS and DIC). 7

Airport Transfer Round-trip transfer service will be arranged to both sponsored and own-cost foreign delegates according to their flight schedules. A representative will be waiting at the Arrival Hall (Exit # 3) at Suvarnabhumi International Airport with a signage CCOP Note: Passengers no longer have to pay airport departure tax in Thailand. Visa Requirements Delegates will receive Acceptance Letter issued by the CCOP as organizer via fax and/or for the travel approval from their organizations and /or to apply & obtain entry visa to Thailand in advance, if it is required. 15

17 Note: The delegates must possess a passport valid for at least six months upon arrival. Sponsorship Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA): will be distributed to sponsored participants at registration on Thursday, 9 February from 8:30-9:00 am. This DSA covers accommodation (based on single occupancy rate), meals and any incidental expenses. Sponsored participants are to settle the payment of their room and personal expenses with the hotel directly. In case of compulsory overnight transit, the cost of extra nights will also be calculated into the DSA and assistance can be provided for hotel reservation. Air-tickets: Sponsored participants are kindly requested to purchase the airticket in your country and reimbursement with CCOP-EPPM upon the provision of original receipt indicating CCOP-approved airfare.
