3 . INTRODUCTION Dindori is a district of Madhya Pradesh state of central India. The town of Dindori is the district headquarters. It was created on 25th May, 998 with total 927 villages. The district is a part of Jabalpur Division. The district covers an area of 7470 sq.km. and is located on the eastern part of Madhya Pradesh, bordering the state of Chhattisgarh. It is surrounded by Shahdol in the east, Mandla in the west, Umaria in the north, and Bilaspur district of the state of Chhattisgarh in the south. Mathematically, the district is situated between the latitudes 22.7N and 23.22N and longitudes 80.35E and 80.58E. It is divided into seven blocks namely Dindori, Shahpura, Mehandwani, Amarpur, Bajag, Karanjiya and Samnapur. In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Dindori one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).[] It is one of the 24 districts in Madhya Pradesh currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). According to the 20 census Dindori District has a population of 704,28, roughly equal to the nation of Bhutan or the US state of Alaska. This gives it a ranking of 50st in India (out of a total of 640 Districts). The district has a population density of 94 inhabitants per square kilometer (240/sq mi). Its population growth rate over the decade was 2.26%. Dindori has a sex ratio of 004 females for every 000 males, and a literacy rate of 65.47%. Around 64% of the total population belongs to the Scheduled Tribe. The Baiga tribe is a very pre-dominant tribe in this district. They are very vulnerable tribal groups which can only be found in the district. The Baigas are also known as the National Human. Dindori's people speak multiple languages, including: Chhattsgarhi, Bagheli, which has a lexical similarity of 72-9% with Hindi (compared to 60% for German and English) and is spoken by about 7,800,000 people in Bagelkhand.
4 The Ghughua/Ghughwa Fossil National Park in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh is a unique destination in India. It has been blessed with priceless treasure of plant fossils which have been dated 65 million years old. It is believed to be of time Gondwana Supercontinent. It lies on tourism route of Bandhavgarh to Kanha national park or vice versa. While traveling from Kanha to Bandhavgarh or vice versa, tourists often take small halt here to visit Ghughua fossil park. These fossils were founded in year 970 and Ghughua Fossil National Park was declared in year 983. Here well preserved fossils of woody plants, climbers, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds have been showcased with informative notes. Dicotyledons and palm fossil woods are particularly numerous. Such plants are not found in Central India. These fossils represent a period in the history of the Earth that is highly significant for the vegetational history of India. Now a days we can see their modern form. It is open for visitors on all the days of a week from sunrise to sunset. In order to visit this park, visitors have to take entrance ticket by making the payment. Their is difference in ticket charges for Indian citizens and foreigner tourists. FOSSILS DISCOVERY These fossils were scattered in a large areas of Dindori and Mandla district areas but was un-noticed by concerned authorities. These fossils were discovered by Dr. Dharmendra Prasad, the Statistical Officer of Mandla district and also the honorary secretary of the District Archaeology Union S.R. Ingle from Science College, Jabalpur and Dr. M.B. Bande from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany. In year 970, Dr. Dharmendra Prasad notice them first and take necessary initiative for further study on them at Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow. FOSSILS DIVERSITY The fossil record of Ghughua consists of mainly plants belonging to the topmost Cretaceous to early Tertiary periods dating back to about 65 million years. So far 3 genera belonging to 8 families have been identified. Their is a preponderance of palms and dicotyledons. Fossils of eucalyptus trees, found here are native to Australia which indicates of time when Great Gondwana Supercontinent was existing on earth. Other fossilized plants includes ancient Date Palm, Jamun, Banana, Rudraksh and Aonla. In addition to this, fossils of some shell bearing animals have also been found which indicates that, in past, this region was much more humid and receives more rainfall. Now a days, climate is totally different. HOW TO REACH By Air : Nearest airport for visiting Ghughua fossil park is in Jabalpur (0kms/02:30hrs). It is well connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Indore. Jabalpur airport (IATA Code:JLR) lies in west of Ghughwa fossil park. For further journey from Jabalpur airport to Ghughua, we offer Jabalpur airport taxi service in which you can hire tourist taxi for visiting Jabalpur city and its nearby tourist destinations. 16 General Characteristics of the District TOURISM:- Khajuraho is a town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located in Chhatarpur District. One of the most popular tourist destinations in India, Khajuraho has the country's largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculpture. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 986 and is considered one of the "seven wonders" of India. The town's name, anciently "Kharjuravahaka", is derived from the Sanskrit word kharjur meaning "date palm". FOREST:-
17 The district has extensive forests. About 42% of the total area is covered by forests only. The District is rich in minerals. The most important mineral found in the district is coal and as a result 8 mines are being operated by South Eastern Coalfield Limited in the district. Forest covered Hecters. Administrative set up.

The District is rich in minerals. Forest covered Hecters. Agriculture: Rich in forest and minerals resources, the district with added irrigation can also yield better agricultural returns, particularly in the respect of paddy. However, wheat, gram, Soyabeen, and maize crops are also sown. 6 The total crops area of the district is 9296 hect.(non Forest) in which Karif crops and Rabi crops. Mining Chhatarpur district have Dimension Stone, Murum, Metal Stone & Sand are the minor Minarets are available in the District. Different litho-units of Bundelkhand granite gneiss, metasedimentary, metabasic bands and enclaves in the Bundelkhand Granite.
21 6. PHYSIOGRAPHY OF THE DISTRICT Physiographically the area is characterised by rugged and undulating topography with moderately high hills interspaced by stretches of alluvium. The maximum elevation of the hills in the area is 33 m. and the lowest point is 40 m. Major drainage in the area is Ken River at the southern extremity of the area, flowing from west to east. The other major stream next to Ken is Kail Nadi at the north - western corner, of the area mapped and Lohruk nala at the south-eastern corner, flow from west to east. Smaller streams forming dendritic to sub-rectangular pattern drain the whole area all the stream courses appear to have been controlled by joints.

23 7. GEOLOGY AND MINERAL WEALTH Geology:- Geologically, Bundelkhand presents a mixture from different eras, from the earliest days of the formation of the earth, when its upper crust cooled and solidified, till recent times. From the earliest period, older than 2500 million years, are granite-like formations called gneiss and socalled Bundelkhand Granite. Much of the area of Datia, Jhansi, Lalitpur, TikamgarhChhatarpur, Panna and Sagar districts, and southern portions of Chitrakoot and Mahoba districts is granite country, marked by outcrops of great diversity in mineral composition and size, ranging from small patches to large hillocks. A striking feature of the granite country, which has impacted settlement patterns and agriculture, is the presence of long and narrow rocky ridges, known as quarts reefs and dolerite dykes. Often, these wall-like natural features intercept the course of streams, leading to formation of water bodies and enabling the creation of large artificial lakes. From later geological eras (570 to 900 million years ago), we get diamond fields in Panna, extensive limestone deposits in Damoh, Chhatarpur and Datia, Graniteic rocks in southern Lalitpur and sandstone deposits in Panna and Sagar. Massive sandstone and limestone cliffs are seen in the Vindhyan hills which girdle the granite country. The most recent geological deposits are alluvium, in the form of sand, silt or clay, brought down by north-flowing rivers. Massive blocks of medium to coarse-grained varieties of pink, red and grey granite are found in Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Banda, Datia, Chhatarpur, Panna and Sagar districts. Multicolored and black granites are found in parts of Sagar and Panna. A variety called Jhansi Red, mined in Chhatarpur, is found in no other country. Another prized variety found in the district is called Fortune Red. Granitic rock gneisses and migmatites of the Bundelkhand Granite Complex of Archaean age occur in northern half of the area. The major rocks type of this complex are a variety of medium to coarse grained granites some being porphyritic migmatite gneisses and locally the fine grained non porphyritic leuco-granites. The granite contains minor enclaves of phyllite, sericite quartz rock BHQ and metabasites. The granites are traversed by large number of NE-SW trending detached outcrops of massive quartz reef a few NW-SE trending dolerites dykes and minor veins of pegmatite and quartz. The overlying granitic rocks are the ENE-WSW trending sedimentary of the Bijawar Group in the central parts of the area. Further these Bijawar groups of rocks are overlain by Vindhyan Super group which together with an ENE-WSW trending broad stretch of soil and alluvial cover occupy the southeastern of district. Overlying the Vindhyans and immediately underlying the Deccan Traps in the southwestern part of the area occur a group of rock types comprising of arenaceous limestone, cherty limestone

Geologically, Bundelkhand presents a mixture from different eras, from the earliest days of the formation of the earth, when its upper crust cooled and solidified, till recent times. From the earliest period, older than 2500 million years, are granite-like formations called gneiss and so-called Bundelkhand Granite.
