Adams Research: Coastal geomorphic consequences of climate change; modeling wave shoaling across the continental shelf and nearshore NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF COASTAL MANAGEMENT Coastal Geologist supported by NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship Key projects: determining statewide shoreline change rates from LIDAR data (partnership with USGS); developing technical environmental standards for beach nourishment projects; delineating Inlet Hazard Areas; updating methodology for calculating oceanfront development setbacks. _ AWARDS and GRANTS NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION: 2-year award to support PhD research on large-scale coastline evolution ORRIN PILKEY FELLOWSHIP, DUKE UNIVERSITY: 3-year award given to outstanding graduate students studying coastal processes NOAA COASTAL MANAGEMENT FELLOWSHIP: nationally competitive award providing full support (salary, benefits, travel) for 2 years while working with the NC Division of Coastal Management. TEACHING EXPERIENCE Primary Instructor: BEACH AND ISLAND GEOLOGICAL PROCESSES, Duke University Synopsis: 5-day coastal processes field course along the North and South Carolina coast. Field sites included both natural and developed coastlines, with emphasis on coastal development and how humans interact with the coastal environment. 2
