1 A NATIONAL LEVEL CONFERENCE ON THE APPLICATION OF GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Jointly organized by THE COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD) CENTRE, JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY and THE CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (CEED) (A Research Institution Affiliated to NITI Aayog, Govt. of India) (KOLKATA CHAPTER) ON 27 TH - 28 TH DECEMBER, 2018 AT GANDHI BHAVAN AUDITORIUM JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

2 AN INVITATION The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Centre of Jadavpur University, Kolkata and the Kolkata Chapter of the Centre for Environment and Economic Development (CEED), a Research Institution affiliated to NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, jointly is going to organize a National Level Conference on Application Of Geospatial Technology In Research And Development on 27 th - 28 th December, 2018 at Jadavpur University Campus. Members of all teaching fraternity, researchers and academia from different disciplines are cordially invited to present their research papers in the conference. FOCAL THEME Geoinformatics is the science and the technology which develops and uses information sciences infrastructure to address the issues of geography, cartography, geosciences and related branches of science and engineering. It has been described as "the science and technology dealing with the structure and character of spatial information, its capture, its classification and qualification, its storage, processing, portrayal and dissemination, including the infrastructure necessary to secure optimal use of this information" or "the art, science or technology dealing with the acquisition, storage, processing production, presentation and dissemination of Geo-information". Geoinformatics combines geospatial analysis and modelling, development of geospatial databases, information systems design, human-computer interaction and both wired and wireless networking technologies. Geo-informatics uses geo-computation and geovisualization for analysing geoinformation. Many fields are benefited from geoinformatics, including urban planning and land use management, in-car navigation systems, virtual globes, public health, local and national gazetteer management, environmental modelling and analysis, military, transport network planning and management, agriculture, meteorology and climate change, oceanography and coupled ocean and atmosphere modelling, business location planning, architecture and archaeological reconstruction, telecommunications, criminology and crime simulation, aviation, biodiversity conservation and maritime transport. The importance of the spatial dimension in assessing, monitoring and modelling various issues and problems related to sustainable management of natural resources is recognized all over the world. Geoinformatics becomes very important technology to decision-makers across a wide range of disciplines, industries, commercial sector, environmental agencies, local and national government, research, and academia, national survey and mapping organisations, International organisations, United Nations, emergency services, public health and epidemiology, crime mapping, transportation and infrastructure, information technology industries, GIS consulting firms, environmental management agencies, tourist industry, utility companies, market analysis and e-commerce, mineral exploration, etc. Many government and non-government agencies started to use spatial data for managing their day-to-day activities.

3 SUB-THEMES The related sub themes are: i. Morphological Analysis. ii. Climate Change and Predictions. iii. Hazard and Disaster Management. iv. Global Environmental issues. v. Spatial Analysis of Economic Activities. vi. Landuse, Planning and Management. vii. Population Dynamics and Socio-Cultural Issues. viii. Advancement in Geo-Spatial Techniques. ABOUT CEED Centre for Environment and Economic Development (CEED) is a Research and Knowledge Centre, affiliated to NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, working for the Greater South Asian Region and its secretariat is based in Delhi, India, has just opened its Kolkata Chapter. CEED starts with broad objectives & vision to promote Research, Advocacy, Education and sharing knowledge through publication, outreach programme and partnership for sustainable and cognitive development of the Region. CEED works through partnership and sharing knowledge with multi-level crosscutting issues of Environmental Protection, Socio-Economic Development, and Humanitarian dimension. It focuses more on Research and its uniqueness lies in its comprehensive Policy level research intervention and cooperation, for the long term idea of sustainable development of the South Asian region. The research based organization works in a wide spectrum related to the arena of NRM/ Water Resource Management, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Management, WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), Climate Change, Urban Environmental Management and prevailing issues of Humanitarian dimensions, Livelihood development, Capacity Development, Human Rights Advocacy, Community Development and Governance in the region. The objectives of CEED are to develop applied policy research for developing a network of partnership to make vulnerable communities resilient to prevailing situation and show the way to development. CEED adopts a community based approach, indigenous technology to empower communities through awareness, training and education. CEED from the beginning places more emphasis and focus on women and child issues and remains dedicated to their integrated sustainable development.

4 ABOUT CAD CENTRE The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Centre is one of the pioneering institutions of Eastern India for training, research, and consultancy services in the emerging areas that it embraces. The Centre functions under the Faculty Council of Engineering & Technology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. In the year 2010, it has reached to its 25 years of academic and research excellence. Feeling the dearth of educational and research facilities, and implementation of new generation technologies the Centre has come up as a state-of-the-art institution for education and research in order to cater to the requirement of emerging technologies like CAD, Multimedia and Animation, Geographic Information Science, and Remote Sensing. Since its inception in 1985 the Centre has generated an immense amount of goodwill in its areas of expertise. The Centre has trained a large number of researchers, academicians, professionals, and students in the preceding technological fields, who have been successful in implementing their training to their work areas. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT & FULL PAPER Authors are requested to submit their original research contribution in the form of an abstract with specified subtheme, not exceeding 300 words with maximum 5 key words, 1.5 spaced, 12 fonts, Times New Roman, justified on both sides.
