28 ABSTRACTS Intangible heritage of Buzău Land Geopark and its potential for tourism development Alexandru ANDRĂŞANU Irina Gabriela BESCIU Intangible heritage represents an intrinsic value of a territory developed generation after generation. A rural territory overlaps an organic context of spatial and non-spatial realities. Tangible heritage (rocks, landscapes, plants, animals, local architecture, pathways, traditional clothing and handicraft) and intangible heritage (good and bad places, toponyms, hydronyms, names of plants and animals, legends, stories, traditional handicraft practices and expressions, people s memory, local history) are linked generating local identity. Tangible and intangible heritage of one community are unique and have great potential to define a local brand and support the development of a unique tourism destination. A cultural project coordinated by University of Bucharest has identified in Buzău Land Geopark seven natural phenomena that played a key role in shaping local identity, and its tangible and intangible heritage. This paper presents the preliminary results of a comparative research regarding the touristic infrastructure, existing travel packages and the touristic potential generated by the intangible heritage of Buzău Land Geopark. These elements are the following: Stories of the Amber Valley, treasure diggers, mysteries of living water and of the almost 30 cave complexes and churches in Aluniş-Bozioru area, sandstone walls, Salt from Meledic, Mud Volcanoes. The conclusions and recommendations of this research represents an integral part of the Geopark s development strategy and its affiliation to the Gobal Network of Geoparks and could be used by different stakeholders in rural tourism market such as: travel-service providers, different organizations in this field, but also by rural tourism consumers, in order to develop local sustainable tourism in the area. Geoparks and geotourism: new strategies in socio-economic development of rural areas. Case study: Hațeg Country Dinosaur Geopark Alexandru ANDRĂŞANU A geopark is an innovative approach aiming to play an active role in the economic development of its communities and enabling the inhabitants to re-appropriate the values of the territory s heritage and actively participate in the territory s cultural revitalization as a whole. The concept proved to be a successful approach in development of rural areas.

29 The geopark concept as we know today started in 1997, and was clearly stated in 2000 as a result of an European cooperation project among four territories focused on their sustainable development based on geological and cultural heritage. UNESCO closely watched and sustained the process and, based on the European experience and results, extended the concept worldwide in After ten years proved to be one of the most dynamic international program. The Global Geopark Network established in 2004 is including in geoparks from 30 countries and more than 1000 geopark projects are under development worldwide. Geotourism is closely related to geoparks activities and other protected areas, often in combination with educational and outreach activities as an appropriate form of local economic development and an increasingly important source of income for local communities. Haţeg Country Dinosaurs Geopark (HCDG) was the first geopark in Romania. Established in 2004 as a natural park, it joined EGN and GGN in The geopark is the result of a grass root effort which started in Hateg Geopark experience generated in Romania a new approach in nature conservation, Romania beeing one of the first countries to recognise the geopark as a distinct protected area according to the Act no. 57/ Also new geopark initiatives and projects were launched: Mehedinti Plateaux Geopark (South Carpatians) is already recognised as natural park, Buzău Land Geopark (southern part of East Carpathians) is near to become official a geopark and a new initiatives for Persani Geopark in The paper is presenting the approach in building, managing and branding Haţeg Country Dinosaurs Geopark in order to fulfill its role of conservation of natural and cultural heritage, innovation in geotourism activities and fostering social and economic development. Agritourism: from theory to practice. A huge long term potential for sustainable agriculture development of Romania Iuliana ANTONIE Traian MANOLE The economic development of a nation beyond the stage of emerging economy implies a consistency and a discipline of strategic objectives in the context of increasingly dramatic and complexity of globalization and of the deep transformations of the environment. In the context of Community Agricultural Policy (CAP) to which Romania is a party and that the customer tries the implementation of coherent policies on sustainable development of the agricultural sector-development management requires a complex ecosystem based approach. Unfortunately between theory and practice, there is still a strong and serious gap, a disruption to the political decision to support the efforts of specialists and experts, constant on domain and social productive forces (particularly farmers, investors in the agricultural economy and food

30 goods manufacturers) as well as the perception of the importance of existing resources and to exploit their divisions. The present paper attempts, in a manner succinct as possible to build an important direction of development of social and material capital in the agricultural sector due to the huge untapped potential of Romania and taking into account, at the same time trends of European and world level of development and the protection of natural capital. Sustainable interferences favourable to ecotourism development Vasile AVĂDĂNEI Lidia AVĂDĂNEI Camelia ŞTEFANACHE Doina DĂNILĂ Carmen NĂSTASE Lazăr LATU Ecotourism is the youngest and most dynamic area of tourism development at the moment. Commercial solutions regard filling tourism packages with environmental attributes. The paper aims to highlight the valences of ecotourism that addresses to health. In the authors vision, health must be separated from the medicine and regards a complex of behavioral activities, lifestyle and nutrition that ensures that functions and physiology are maintained within acceptable limits. A health portion concept is formulated that aggregates innovative elements and perspectives of economic recovery and that lead to growth solutions of added value within tourist packages. The effects of financial-economic crisis upon rural tourism companies Gabriela BOLDUREANU Daniel BOLDUREANU Teodor PĂDURARU The globalization and the current world crisis entailed a series of structural changes very deeply impacting business environment. The pressure of being more and more competitive has grown for enterprises, which generated productivity increase through new technologies and innovation. The new opportunities have stimulated entrepreneurial initiative and creativity, the vectors of economic development from the perspective of the year On the other hand, world crisis severely affected rural tourism companies: higher costs for foreign currency credits because of the RON depreciation, decrease in tournover because of the decrease in the number of tourists, lack of working capital needed for development, etc. Starting from these premises, the present paper analyzes the impact of financial-economic crisis upon the rural tourism companies in North-East

31 Region and makes some suggestions on how the crisis negative effects could be counteracted. Solitude and crowdedness in the nature Ştefan BONCU Cristina SPĂLĂŢELU Dana-Alina UNGUREANU City parks, recreational areas and wild areas in the mountains offer numerous opportunities in order to provide isolation and solitude in the midst of nature. Following a study done in 1981, it resulted the fact that solitude is extremely important for living at full the experience of nature, especially when it is about a trip in the mountains. It is interesting to see if twenty four years later, solitude has the same meaning for the tourist, and whether withdrawal in the nature equates to withdrawal from civilization. This aspect might help the development of the rural tourism, taking into account the fact that spending time in nature as leisure, even in remote areas from the residential perimeter, has become a habitual practice. Perspectives on Romanian rural tourism integration into the sustainable European tourism market Graţiela BRÂNZĂ In recent years rural tourism acquires new dimensions and is required to meet certain challenges. Thus, it should be regarded as a useful tool for development of tourism in a country, but also as a benchmark in terms of conservation and protection of natural resources in a sustainable manner. Regarding the Romanian rural tourism, it still needs to conduct an intense process of modernization and development. We must find traditional Romanian identity, to create and implement strategies in order to promote symbols, values, personalities, landscapes and unique traditions in Europe, rooted in traditional Romanian village. This paper analyzes European Union s policy in the field of rural development and rural tourism infrastructure in all Member States of the European Union. Also, it presents some considerations regarding the place and the role of Romanian rural tourism in a sustainable European touring space.
