Aim at concentrating resources on the most promising areas of competitive advantage; e.g. clusters, existing sectors and cross-sectoral activities, eco-innovation, high value-added markets or specific research areas. 28 A Trading Zone for Sustainable Development It becomes increasingly clear that global competition today is no longer only between individual entities, but to an ever increasing extent among urban/regional systems including their tangible and intangible elements. The development of these has become a necessary condition for the competitive growth of the system itself, and of its capability of attracting external resources. Concurrently, the concept of valuemight be understood with new connotations as a strategic driver of regional development. The very attractiveness of any territory becomes increasingly linked to its ability to offer intangible as well as tangible component.
