3 DISTRIBUTION OF FERTILIZER SALES IN KENTUCKY July June 2004 INTRODUCTION This report provides invoice data on fertilizer movement in Kentucky for the twelvemonth period of July June The report shows total distribution for the current period and the previous comparable period; top grades and materials for the state; and, the distribution of total fertilizer and the top 10 grades by county. All tonnage data in this publication are compiled from monthly fertilizer sales reports submitted by companies registered or licensed to sell fertilizers in Kentucky. Some of the data are considered unofficial; however, official tonnage will not vary more than about 3 percent from the monthly data. The slight difference between data in this publication and that in the published monthly tonnage reports is primarily due to rounding at various states during summarization and corrections received after the publication of the monthly reports. We are now using the UFTRS Version 4 to publish our data. Our tonnage reports are also available on our internet site: Your suggestions to improve the reports are welcome. Please tell us what you want in a tonnage report and we will try to furnish it. Special requests are welcome. Please call D. L. Terry, 859/ DATA DESCRIPTION Some of the monthly reports received from the companies show only the county to which the fertilizer was shipped. Since fertilizer shipped to one county may have been used in another the information shown may not exactly represent fertilizers used in a given county. Some of the reports reflect receipts of fertilizer materials by the blender and not actual sales to farmers; therefore, what appears to be sales of materials may only be a consequence of the way the materials are reported. Some of the materials may subsequently be sold as part of a blend.
