4 PART 3: DESCRIPTION OF THE CULTIVAR In order to complete registration of a cultivar an accurate description is required. This may include: a written description, photos of the flower and other diagnostic features, filling out the following section, or all ofthe above. (Digital Photos are preferable so they can be posted on-line) 30 What are the distinctive characteristics 1. The first-day blooming flower is of a pink petal of the new cultivar? shade with yellow color at the base. In the 2ndand 3rdblooming day, the pink color gradually recedes from the base toward the tip, while the yellow color expands from the base to the tip. On the last blooming day, the petal color is yellow with pink color at the very tip. 2. Plant size is very large, approximately cm in height. 31 What existing cultivar does the new Ne/umbo nucifera cv. Rachinee cultivar most resemble? 32 In what way is the cultivar distinct 1. The petal colors are pink and yellow, while from that in 32? Rachinee's petal colors are pink and white. 2. On the last blooming day, the petals have lost almost all of its pinkness and become yellow, while Rahinee's petals can still be recognized as pink and white. 3. The plant flowers only from May through October, while Rachinee can flower all year round. 4. The plant undergoes dormancy in December (when it sheds all its leaves), while Rachinee does not undergo dormancy. 5. The plant fails to yield viable seeds upon selffertilization, while Rachinee can yield a good amount of viable seeds. 6. The new two hybrid lotus lines were observed in Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, Chiang Mai. The first line was the progeny of big a large 'Pathum' (Rachinee) X 'Mutant Yellow Lotus' and the second line came from a small 'Pathum' X 'Mutant Yellow Lotus'. The flower size of the first line was bigger than the second line. The first-day blooming flower was of a pink petal shade which gradually turned into a creamy yellow shade in the last blooming day. The second line was different. The petal shade was pinkish red from middle to tip with a creamy yellow shade near the petal base during blooming days and turned into a light creamy pink shade in the lastday.
