1 Thursday, 15 March 2018 Why is the Moon following us? - Felix Last Thursday on our walk around the school to find the Gingko tree, the children noticed the Moon in the sky. We revisited this question. Why do you think the Moon was in the sky? Felix Emma Claudia It was the reflection. The Moon doesn t follow us because we were walking away. When we go in the shadow it s still there. It s easily following us because when you are in space you float. When you go, you see it and it s going down and you see it. It goes down into space. But space is up there. The Moon is following you. Sometimes you see it in the morning and it s up in the air. The clouds make the Moon move. How do the clouds make the Moon move? Bear Bear Clemmie Nate The air pushes them. You know what? Space doesn t live down. It lives up. The Moon floats. The Moon is a planet. If the Moon crashes into another moon it will be destroyed. There is only one moon. Every night it changes. The clouds make it change. In different countries there are different moons. The Moon floats for a long time. If we walk and its really far away, when we stop the Moon stops. The Moon goes in the opposite direction. The Moon is basically the Sun. When its night time the Moon is at Meme and Poppy s place. And then when it is night time here it is at my place. And it goes at the same speed. When its dark the Moon goes down and then the Moon moves where the Sun is. And the clouds turn rainbow where the Sun is, when it comes out. When we are in a plane you can see the Moon because it is high up. The world we are on moves. We don t fall off because the Earth goes slowly. When we are on the side we don t fall off because there is gravity. When you walk the world doesn t spin. The gravity has magnets in it. If the gravity isn t there, the things will float because there is zero gravity in space. The Moon is actually the Sun. The sticks are not the same, they come out because that means it's morning. The Moon is white when it s night and the Moon is yellow when it s morning. If there was no gravity you would float away. You would never come back down again. When you jump backdown you float back up. If you don t have a suit on you will fall.

2 Emma Nate Emmy Ava Ted And if you don t have a suit you can t breathe and you will die. The Moon stays up until its morning. And then the Earth spins. No! There are 100 earths. No! There is one earth. No! They are all connected. The Sun goes down then the Moon goes up. There is not just one planet. The Sun goes up and down. The Moon follows us. And it keeps following you. When you go up into the Moon and you don t have a space jacket, you actually die. Does the Moon follow us? Ted Ollie What makes it move? Ollie Emmy Jacob Because the wind blows into you. It follows you because it can actually move. It moves when it has to. The air. At night sometimes I stay up late. The Moon makes shadows. The Moon is following us because there is all the planets and Earth are following the Moon. When it stops Earth and the planets stop when the Moon stops. If you are up early over this weekend the Moon is reaching a new moon phase (waning crescent). This phase is best viewed an hour or two before the sunrise. In this phase the Moon s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon (Saturday). It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon's surface. If you have a telescope, along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows are easier to see. 3 A Fish out of Water Following on from our conversations about water we used our Creative Movement session with Mrs Zachest and explored the book A Fish out of Water written by Helen Palmer Geisel. The story is about a child who feeds his fish too much food and the fish does not stop growing. The child has to race around searching for different water holding vessels to hold his ever growing pet. We began by acting out the story line. The children contributed their ideas to the story. Claudia Taylor In the bath. Its getting bigger. In the swimming pool. In the beach. Lets put it in the beach. Its too big. We were then faced with a problem that the children had to solve. Its too big for the pool, who should we call? Firefighters. What is the number? Bear Jacob 000. Who else can help? Felix Animal doctor. Police. And a fire truck. We called Mr Carp, the pet shop owner who sold us the fish and he jumps into the ocean but. There is a whirlpool. We then read the story and each child was given the opportunity to act out a particular page.
